Does anyone have any good ideas on how to carry the family SUP's on the roof of the car? I can get 3 laying flat but need longer straps for the 4 - I have also looked at these - http://www.yakima.com.au/au/shop-en/camping/top/bigstack.html

Any ideas would be great

Thanks

I would be careful stacking 4 sups on the roof of your car and strapping them down,

We have three metre straps that can hold 4 boards, but we only strap 4 boards to the low trailer we have, which is behind the car and out of the direct force of the wind,

I wouldnt go higher than three boards on the roof of a car.

Could you fit two side by side?

would love to do side by side but my widest board is 33" so no chance at all

Thinking trailer but then getting to some of our spots is going to be a tricky 4WD

I've strapped 2 sups, 2 windsurf boards on the roof with standard tie-downs & travelled 600kms no probs. I'd suggest a towel between layers (if no soft deck pads) & also tying the bottom 2 boards separately in case the tie-downs fail (hate to lose 2 boards, but 4 would be devastating!) Also not using one long tie-down for front & back (which is what I normally do except on long trips).

The shape of the boards should allow the wind to pass around them fairly well. If you go with that 'bigstack' thingy the rockers will probably force the wind to either rip the frame off the roof racks or affect your steering?!

one thing we do when loading the boards on post/pre dw run is make sure we have foam to put in between them.. best way is to get pool spaghetti and it up into pieces that you can put in between... just a thought.

Hi Lance,

Stacking boards isn't a problem so long as you are careful about how you stack. We use either short pool noodles between boards directly in line with the strap locataion and remove the fins of course, or square pieces of styrofoam packing pieces that come with our boards in the boxes.

Make sure you use quality straps, not cheapy, Supercrap Auto stuff. 4m straps allow you plenty of length.

You should probably open the doors before putting the straps on

Wow this thread is hilarious!

Not content with already wreaking carnage at already over-crowded surf spots all over the country, you lot want to become a liability on the roads as well?

I'm curious, does the passion for Stand Up Paddling come before, or after your frontal lobe labotomy?

Researching a new passtime, maybe. Come to the dark side, you know you want too

You must not be a SUPer? Why would you comment on a SUP thread.. It's obvious that your lurking on here seeing what were up to in the world..? Cause hmm maybe your jealous?

I'm not lurking, I'm participating

As for being jealous of SUP'ers, that's highly unlikely. Perhaps in the future, were I to suffer a debilitating injury, succumb to a mental illness, or possibly develop a preference for wearing boardshorts over my wetsuit, maybe then will I look at investing in a gondola.

I might even hit one of you guys up for lessons!

Haha, you've pretty much described the reasons why about 80% of us are here & still enjoying the Stoke. Thanks for the recognition.

Good luck to you mate.

"already over-crowded surf spots..." It sounds like his issue is with the excess of SBers, not the few SUPers that barely make a dent in those numbers?

Haha Pohaku, I always laugh when I see your 4wd pull up with all those boards on the roof, gold!
Shimmyshazbo I totally agree with you on the Perth area, closeout city as well!! It killed me for 2 years except when I could escape to Margaret River or Exmouth.

PS beautiful place though........

Cheers, Spiro
