I'm not picking but I also notice Woogie changes his stroke technique sometimes from a nice up/down movement of the top hand using the lower to bring the paddle forward to a slight swinging top hand using the top hand to bring the paddle forward.
We'd love to see more vids like this showing Woogie paddling if that's poss..

Hey DJ - when Woogie drag the paddle it is more for balance or he is just feeling what the board is going to do next - he might be on a run so is in the relax mode.
As for the two different types of returns this is very common -
When pushing into the wind you want to use the swing style as it help prevent resistance with the paddle into the wind - this is also see as the Tahitian or Hawaiian style of stroke.
When he is about the push into a bump you will see the more up and down pendulum movement as he needs to increase his stroke rate to get into that bump.
