When they had that flap up you should of asked for a permanant leg rope to be attached.
Remember years ago a friend did nearly the same thing by landing on the fin of his sailboard during a bad landing. The flap that was peeled back on your leg in theartre looked like his leg on the beach!, very nasty but heeled up well.

Definitely not dinnertime viewing but it is a timely reminder that no matter how experienced we think we are mother nature and our equipment can turn on us.

This is the result of tangle with the 9' fin of my 12'6 in 1-2' surf.

Over 100 stitches later I am left wondering HTF did I get caught out in such obscure conditions?

We invented Pro Teck fins, fiberglass fins with a flexible urethane edge, that greatly reduce fins cuts. Flexible trailing edges also improve board performance by allowing water to flow off the fin smoother and faster.
We have a Super Flex fin, with a flexible core that bends, making it the safest fin in the world for children, beginners, and surf schools. This Super Flex fin is also used on rescue boards and flat/shallow water SUP because it bends and does not break when struck against rocks and reef.
I invented the Pro Teck fins after our son got a severe fin cut to his inner thigh that required over 200 stiches.
We developed Nose and Tail Guards to protect surfers from injuries when hit by the nose and tail of fiberglass boards. They also protect the board from dings with out affecting performance.

Hey AA hope you have a speedy recovery!

I copped a fin chop to my foot a while back by the exact same shaped fin. It just punctured my foot with ease. Have to agree with sanding down that edge. It's just sometimes the small things we miss

Adapt, I reckon we have all had our close calls and serious cuts but that fin is dangerous! Apprantley the head honchos at Future Fins in the US have seen the pics and offered me a new set of fins. Generosity

Looking back I wish I had done a few things differently - played the shark attack card with the locals, pushed a bit harder to get my moneys worth by putting the siren on as we drove past the shop and of course ask for a permanant leg rope to be attached at the stitch up! Oh well! Always easy to remember in hindsight.
