I rode the 14 x 25 Ace today and even though this isn't designed with a major down wind focus I had a heap of fun. I found that in the little runners of the river I was really able to power onto the next run and keep speed going when needed, but I don't think anyone really got out of 2nd gear as we were all just cruising. I had four falls in the three runs which I figured wasn't too bad considering it was only the 2nd time I had ridden the board. I found being sunken in the cockpit and the design of it meaning you can't step back to surf it off the tail the best way to surf it and link runners was to kind of roll it using your ankles. Only a very slight role was needed to get the board tracking across.
Overall I was pretty impressed with this board in today's conditions, would Itake it out in the ocean in the same kind of wind speed? only if it was direct down wind and running with the swell. I think it might be a bit out of it's league in one of our howling Drs with a 2m swell. But who knows could be just as fun.
Thanks boys for an enjoyable arvo. Thanks Stimmo your a good bloke despite what everyone else says. A great justification for a Sunday arvo refreshment. Look forward to summer or the next front. Thanks Basha for lending me your board, there is no excuse for why you go so slow that board is fine.
That sucks about your ribs Stimo, just as you were starting to look really good out on the water. On the upside you will be back just in time for the Bridge The Bank team challenge, more details coming in the next couple of days.
