****UPDATE****
The 2014 SUPfest committee met this morning to confirm the point allocation for the Ke Nalu Overall Flatwater Champion - for each division. The points system was decided upon 2 months ago and places an emphasis on the 200m distance. To be eligible for the overall champion award you must have competed in all 3 disciplines - 200m, 500m and 5000m.

8 points for first place, 7 points for 2nd, 6 points for 3rd and so on til 1 point for 8th.

Points are tallied from the 200m, 500m and 5000m results and double points awarded to the 200m results.

In the instance of tied points, the paddler with the best result in the 200m will be deemed the higher finisher.

There are trophies to be awarded to each division - Open men, Open women, O/40 men, O/40 women, O/50 men, O/50 women and O/60 men.

In short: Jacko's time in the 200m wasn't far off Connor's 200m record, though we're still a long way behind C1.

EDIT: I forgot that Lost Mills actually had a rolling start, whereas the SUPfest used a standing start... So given that, Jacko's time is even more impressive and probably at least as quick as Connor's.

Looks like a pretty cool event and all reports from the paddlers suggest it's been extremely well organised. I believe it's also very interesting to take away all the variables (waves, buoy turns, carnage, etc) because then it becomes a pure drag race where the fastest paddler wins (or for the cynics: where the fastest board wins).

Plus from a stats geek's point of view, it's great seeing SUP races accurately timed down to 1/100th of a second.

I was kinda skeptical about this format of SUP racing but I'm starting to come around...

Great overview Chris, looking forward to hearing the competitors thoughts on the format. For the SUPfest, AuSUP utilized the SUPAA board dimension rules. All boards had to comply to minimum width, weight and depth (dug out) specs. The future of this style of racing will be affordable and competitive, without being an 'arm's race' for the narrowest, lightest canoe.
Well done to Jacko and Ange - fastest couple in Australia!

Really fun event and really well run. It was great to see it run so smooth with everything and i'm sure this type of racing will take of in the future and will be a main part of the SUP world along with DW and BOP races which is why our sport is so good!!

Super tight racing and stoked to win the 200m but a huge part of this goes to our new training and having a great board!! Spewing we will miss the 5km race but good luck to all those doing it this afternoon as it will be a tough one!!

Pretty sure the New Fanatic won all 3 divisions today which is unreal and shows to have a fast board it does not have to be tippy!!

The 200m race was double points - see earlier post on this thread. The idea here was to keep the focus on the sprint distances. Doesn't really change overall standings except Heath finishing over Will.
