I was down at the main beach in Merimbula this morning at sunrise and took a couple of pictures as the sun came up.. I looked across and saw a friend paddling out at the bar and catch a knee high wave and ride it all the way in from way out the back.. I rushed back and got my Mana and within a few minutes I was also out there.. We had two hours all to ourselves and wave after wave even though it was only small at was great fun.. At about 8am another young local paddled out on his 9' Mactavish and the waves soon dropped as the tide came in and stopped the waves breaking.. I was ready for a rest anyway.. It was boardies and beautiful weather... Here's a few pictures that I took this morning.

btw.. It was great to catch up with Randy Naish (Robby's brother) this arvo.

I've got bad internet conection here so it's hard to post pic's etc... but I'll ask phill if he can post a few from yesterday and btw.. we had another beauty today in some good size waves.. Keahi wins todays wipeout award on the cleanup set that launched into out-a-space on a head and a half high set that had everyone else scratching to get over it.. It was a beauty and Phill got it on film.

Yeah.. Steve's heal cut was nasty but that didn't stop him because he was back out there paddling today in the Bar to Bar sup race.

BTW.. here's some quick info on how the race went.. We had two classes (12'6" and 14' ) all paddling together and the first paddler had to run down the beach.. grab their teams board and paddle out 200mtrs through the surf and around a bouy and then paddle into a head wind all the way to the Bar beach on the other side of the inlet.. Once there run up the hill to the kiosk and down a short black.. run back down and tag the next paddle so he could paddle back.. around the bouys and into the beach surfing the waves.. then run up the beach and tag their alicated Street sup'er that would have to street sup two laps of the car park before taging the third paddler.. He would rund down and paddle across.. down the short black.. tag the last team paddler and they would paddle back.. around the bouys and run up the beach to the finish.

I paddled second for the SupVic team and here we are waiting for our first paddler to arive.

Jacko was first across paddling the Naish Javelin and followed by Stuey on a 14' Hobie race board and then out paddler Cam.. on the 14' Glide.

Angie finshed first on the Javelin for team Naish.. She did a great job surfing the Jav on a good wave all the way in without falling.

There were some great fancy dresses paddlers.. this is my friend spotty.

This is our SupVic team.. Cam.. Ross.. Rea and me... Cam did a great job finishing his leg third after getting taken out at the start.. and by the time I started we were fourth.. I him and got back third and caught up to Jason paddling the Hobie and he caught a wave at the end and I didn't but we were close when we tagged out street sup'er.. anyway.. that's where our race went down hill because out skater got passed by half a dozen other steet sup'ers and that puit us wway back.. Ross and Rea did a great job but we were too far behind to finsh well.

It was a great day and great fun... Congrats to Jacko and the rest of the Queenslanders that kicked our butts..

Couple Pics from the 7000 Images + Kristi and I have take so far!
The internet here is very slow, this is a couple of very low res shots as teasers.

Kristi is selling all her images from the mambo as she is saving for a raceboard so if you were there busting a move and want some proof for the office or wall at home PM her.

Had to leave early from Merimbula ,leaving just after the sup race yesterday which DJ covered well in the above post but also worth a mention is Angie,Jacko and Lummers paddling two legs of the race as they were in both a 14ft team and 12'6 team ,big effort there.
Seemed like twice the number of sup'ers this year but not sure on exact figures.
The pics Phill posted above are first shot of Andy from NSW and Steve the local up there who led a convoy of keen surfers to the best spots every day depending on the conditions at the time, thanks for showing us around mate.
Was great to follow Jacko and Andy on a downwinder[for a short time anyway until they disappeared into the distance and going through the Pambula river mouth in the arvo's on an outgoing tide made things real interesting on the 17ft glide with the waves standing up that much more, DJ has a shot amongst his 100's of pics of Casso taking off on the 12'6 Deep board of his and nose diving down the face of a wave which was lucky for me as if he made the drop the 17 glide and myself would have been split in two as I was momentarily stuck on the sand bank straight in front of him.
The north east wind picks up most afternoons giving great conditions for downwind runs and combined with the morning surfs and throw in the flat water Saturday race this event has everything covered for the keen Sup'er.
Was great to meet new crew and catch up with everyone from last year, sorry have not one pic after taking two cameras and a video cam[}:)] was just too busy paddling,
Cheers.

When I looked yesterday (sat morn) the numbers were something like this...

The kiters were 165 and up on last year.

The windsurfers were 100 and well up on last year (I think it was about 40 last yr)

The SUP'ers were well up on last year with 130 (I think it was about 80 last yr)

There were still people entering that just come for the w/e so this year was by far the biggest Merimbula classic than it's ever been over the past 30 yrs.

I think total entries were about 300 with the best before being about 220 almost 10 yrs ago.

Next year will be even bigger for sure.

I just had a call from AA and the opens was won by Jacko with Lummers 2nd and Andy Davies Third.

Casso won the masters, can't remember the rest - sounds like they got some epic surf courtesy of Bournda Steve.

Any video footage of the decent surf Mr Reflex??
