I had to pay over $400 to get a 14 over east (and back) for the nationals and borrow a board for the bop. I would've preferred to have my own 12'6 there but couldn't afford it. (Wouldn't have changed much cause all I did was cop waves on the head!!! Haha) I love my 12'6 for everything especially dw but I'm only the size of a stunted child! The travel thing with 2 boards is hard from over here. Just going east for 2 races with your own 2 boards can get pretty ridiculous in price.

it's not any cheaper going west i'm told. mate i probably will not do the nationals here. but i'm having a 24.5 inch version built soon of the dc 26' 14' er canoe style we have all been frothing over. you would be welcomed to use it if your coming in november

As a keen observer and recreational racer and having ridden the back end of the rocky demise of Windsurfing, the main goal has to be to attract more people to the sport.

Do this and the sponsors come and the quantity and quality of events will increase and their will be prizes for everyone.
Do it right and you get sponsors lining up to back events!

To even think of attracting more participants you should be able to turn up to any race with one board and compete in whatever discipline you want.

The common factor for the most paddlers, when deciding which length to go, is weight.

Start with a Fun division - 11'6 x 4.75" max, no weight limit.
Split the Mens and Women's into 2 weight divisions for 12'6 and 14'.
For bigger races add a 4th division - Open

No one gets left out and all the current boards stay relevant.
As the sport grows, you can split the larger divisions into Age or A,B or C divisions, but start with a simple formula with a broad appeal.

Sure not everyone is going to be happy being on the cusp of a weight division and some may have to 'pie up' the week before, but it will taste good and be for the greater good!
