Re the fish oil not a good idea for sand when it gets warm it softens and the sand will stick like sh!t to a blanket.

Never had that experience & I've ridden a couple of my steelies through a lot of sand. YMMV.

Disc's and sand is not a problem.. It's not even a problem in serious mud so sand is fine.. All the motor cross guys that ride sand hill don't have any issues at all with sand on the disc's.. BTW I've fitted a larger dia front disc and also lots of colours bolts and bling.. Just because I can..

I rode a Surly Pugsley a couple of years ago on a holiday in Japan and came home wishing I could afford more than one bike. There's a vid floating about of a guy riding one through a lake. I see on their website they have a few of that style of bike in their lineup. Must be gaining popularity. Love the names of the products too.
Large Marge rims, too funny.

I was going to buy the Pugsley.. and it's still the best value for money Fat Bike out there but the new Moonlander comes with even bigger tires and still able to run with a full range of gears.

I love that name.. (Pugsley).. .... I just posted the vid of that guy riding the Pugsley under water in the lake.. Amazing.

Also.. Here's a pic of the Pugsley vs Moonlander tracks.. The Moonie has much better float.

No problem at all.. These things are proving to be great on bush trails.. Technical stuff that requires a precise line get eaten up with these fat tires.. Just straight line it straight over rocks and ruts and tree roots with ease.. Steep climbs are also great because there's no more balancing on the front of the seat as you try prevent rear wheel spin.. You can get out of the seat and stomp.. There 's no spinning that fat tire.. Also getting air is no problem ..

It funny how people say jeez.. It must be slow on the road (or hard surface) and it is.. But only a little.. But ride through grass, sand, gravel and rough ground and it so much faster.. So 4 out of 5 it's better so why focus on that one.. No problem at all doing a 10klm road ride.

Getting more and more jealous at this thread goes on.
I was never worried about the disc brakes but I know a bit of sand in my drive train can be a bugger to clean and the most I would ride on sand is when the tide and swell is up and the sand has come over the pavement around the Alley.
You haven't had any drama's?

Craig here's a vid of a local guy to you taking his new fat bike for its first ride through the sand dunes around southern Sydney.. I'm guessing where you mean.. near Cronulla.



I've been asked how the sand goes in the disc brakes and gears/chain etc.. Well the brakes are no problem at all.. and after my first sand ride I did notice grains of sand on the chain and cluster and was a bit gritty.. but after a good clean (and Mr Sheen) I gave the drive chain and gears a good going over with a dry lube.. I've never liked wet lubes but that's what came on the bike.. and now with the dry chain lube there's no more sand pick up.. It's been fine.. I carry a brush (from a dust pan and brush set) and I dust off the tires and chain/gears after each ride.

I've also been asked what little changes that I've made to my bike and here's a few pics of my mods and bling that I've added..
