I would think Boat Harbour not Voodoo

It's a pity the bureaucracy (bureauCRAZY) wouldn't let the event go ahead with the original plans - would have made for a challenging course with a great downwind section in the middle - especially with the forecast winds for this weekend.

I'm not sure how it works with the race directors down there, but maybe you could push for a self-regulated SUP start (like we did with the Narrabeen DW in the Ocean Series). Organise a carpool to access the northern end of cronulla beach with 4wd's - this would give you a nice 5-5.5km downwind run in the forecast NE and then a 3km upwind battle in Gunnamatta Bay to sort out the boys from the men. Probably a more realistic option for sup's than the proposed loop course if they want to encourage more sups to enter the event.

It's a shame the access/parking at Voodoo isn't a little better, it's a straight NE run down to Gunnamatta and would make the overall course just over 10kms. You're right the last 2-3 kms would be an upwind challenge where I would definately be found out

Yes, it would be tough jumping off near 'suck rock' on a 12'6 or 14'. I haven't been to Voo-y since late 80's. Has anybody gone out on a Sup ? It would be a challenge.

Is it possible to coordinate these events better in future?

Seems the shire is going to be a popular place in the morning;

6.30 CSSUP club surf day - Greenhills (not to self must find out as I am in first round (LOU??))
8.00 Blast paddlers skis, ocs and SUP - Gunammatta
8.30 Cronulla Paddle Posse social padle - Grays Point
10.00 Bay to Beaches skis, ocs and SUP - Gunammatta
10.00 Cronulla Paddle Shop PSH demo day - Eloura
12.00 Cronulla Paddle Shop - demo - Grays Point

Have I missed anything???????

Access isn't perfect but you can get a 14' SUP out there in small swell, then it's all smooth supin' - just ask Steve aka BigMc

Boat Harbour's no good it's $25 just for a day pass and 4WD access only.

The only other feasible option is an airlift and mid-ocean drop off

Last time I surfed out there was I think 86. It was a few days after a local surfer drowned out there. A few of the Shire locals may recall that one.
The old man had a 28ft cruiser moored at Frenchmans and dropped us out there. A touch scary jumping in without the luxury of checking it out from shore first - all good fun though,

It's ashame we can't start from boat harbour it's a perfect starting point.
Maybe we could do a deal with the owners ? something to look into for next time .

I'm glad I wasn't the only one that took umbridge to Jappys comments. Thanks for the support SUP Community! You are awesome I love you guys!

What's going on with this event! It's a shame that more events seem to be getting done over by risk adverse governing bodies. Mitigate the risk and let people live their lives! Now wouldn't that be a novel approach?

All these changes and cancellations only illustrate how well Dez and his crew have put together the Blast Summer Series which all competitors have thoroughly enjoyed being a shorter format more suitable for novice and intermediate paddlers.

summerseries.blastpaddlers.com/

Other Series' seemingly for longer distances appear extremely well organised and enjoyable too.

There's plenty of racing and a lot of hard work put into them.

We are lucky in Sydney and surrounds.

IMHO, a great Bate Bay (Cronulla) event without the Boat Harbour hassle (and sand flies) would be Greenhills start (parking, showers and grass set up) north to Merries and then a shoot down to a Darook Park finish also being an ideal finish line inside Port Hacking for BBQ and presentation and an ideal downwind run in the summer NE wind pattern or in a south quarter wind, Darook to Phantoms, then rip in to Greenhills with a beach finish.

Hope to see some of you support Blast on Sunday morning.

Yeh mate, still on the laird. I'm stuck with it until I can save $2450 for a DC14.
Can't wait to finally get on a race board. Until then, go the Coastrunner.
What are you paddling on ? Didn't you offload the white canoe ?
