This is a 18k paddle race starting on the 25th Feb from Bonna Point (Kurnell) to Gunnamatta BAY (Cronulla)

This will take you out from Kurnell around Botany Bay Heads into Cronulla and then finish at Gunnamatta BAY.

Start race time is 1 pm and finish approximately 2 pm.

Spectators can watch the race finish from the beach, chat to exhibitors, view the latest SUP boards, clothing and equipment. Free board testing and demonstrations will be provided by exhibitors. Exhibitor tents will be set up from 8 am. Food, sausage sizzle also available making it a great day out.

The SUP flat water racing events are held over one day. There will be two races:

Morning: flat water, long race 6km
Afternoon: flat water, short race 1500 m

The Entrance provides an ideal location for the SUP race events. Exhibitor tents and sausage sizzle will be on the foreshore.

Participants and spectators are able to watch the races from various places around the lake, chat to exhibitors, view and test out the latest SUP boards, clothing and equipment. Food sausage sizzle will be available making it a great day out

Free learn to SUP clinics will be held throughout the day courtesy of Central Coast Stand Up Paddle Board School, the local learn to SUP school. The clinics are open to the general public.

Free SUP board testing and demonstrations will also be provided by exhibitors.

All competitors receive a copy of SUP Mag.

Free entry for spectators.

Brutal looking course for SUP's but if the forecast holds Nor East it'd be an amazing run down into the Hacking once you finally turn South.

Anyone else keen. You shire boys could make a day of it and do the Blast in the morning then this monster in the arvo. Would be good for the sport.

Hey Man, I'm all for supporting the governing body but how about laying off all the other great events that people are organising. Ever heard 'variety is the spice of life'? The sport is young here in AUS, so let people be innovative. That way SUP can evolve and reach it's full potential ... if people only compete under one body it can surely just stiffle the sport ...
Is the Yamba gig next weekend SUPA? Is the Dean Gardiner Ocean Series SUPA? What about other non-affilated SUPA Clubs ... why shouldn't I join them? I don't know who's affiliated because I really don't care if they are or not.
I reckon the people will decide to support SUPA events if they think that the governing body is doing their sport justice. I have to say I think it's doing an ok job, but it isn't helped by people telling other SUP folk what to do ...

If the date works, it's your type of event and the conditions are right. Then go in it.
To be honest alot of the local crews put on a way more personal feeling event then some of the bigger ones I've done..

We do it lots, the start is tough but the run is wiked..

I'm all for supporting events run by any organisation (including SUPA) in the interest of growing the sport. But a narrow-minded view like that expressed by Jappy is not doing anything positive for the sport! Are you for real?

You say yourself Jappy that SUPA was only formed in October 2010 - so what about the organisations that were supporting SUP and facilitating events for us before then? Should we turn our backs on everyone who was supporting the growth of the sport from it's infancy, before SUPA was formed?

I've been competing in Sup racing and surfing since the start of 2009 and am very appreciative of the likes of Surfing Queensland, Surfing Australia & SQZone/AOCRA for hosting some excellent events over the years and also to all the independently run events such as The King of the Coast, The Salt Festival, The Sydney Ocean Series, The Doctor and Merimbula!!!

Without these independent events, I highly doubt the level of competition for SUP Surfing and Racing in this country would be anywhere near where it is today.

Here's what Jamie thinks about the Surfing Australia link to ISA and Olympics eventually. I have no cart in this as I don't race or surf in events but I do have friends at Surfing QLD and Surfing Aust that I respect highly.

the big thing I've found racing this summer is that skis and SUPS travel very very differently in head-winds.

do these guys realise that no one will enter if there is a head wind first???

why can't we start at maroubra???

It's a pity the bureaucracy (bureauCRAZY) wouldn't let the event go ahead with the original plans - would have made for a challenging course with a great downwind section in the middle - especially with the forecast winds for this weekend.

I'm not sure how it works with the race directors down there, but maybe you could push for a self-regulated SUP start (like we did with the Narrabeen DW in the Ocean Series). Organise a carpool to access the northern end of cronulla beach with 4wd's - this would give you a nice 5-5.5km downwind run in the forecast NE and then a 3km upwind battle in Gunnamatta Bay to sort out the boys from the men. Probably a more realistic option for sup's than the proposed loop course if they want to encourage more sups to enter the event.

It's a shame the access/parking at Voodoo isn't a little better, it's a straight NE run down to Gunnamatta and would make the overall course just over 10kms. You're right the last 2-3 kms would be an upwind challenge where I would definately be found out

Maybe not all the way to Voodoo's if it's too sketchy for a sup (though i can't see there being much swell this weekend) but you'd still get a better run from Green Hills or just inside Boat Harbour than paddling the loop.

I won't be there, but I know what I'd prefer for a course if I was.
