Separate SUP video up in a few days, interviews, start, mid race, finish and Pressie. Trav paddled solidly in those conditions, back on top after injury and enjoyed the race.

It was a great race.
The first 45min was light glassy conditions but then BANG the seabreeze was right behind our back and got stronger.
Around the last marker and the bumps to the finish line were insane u could link them for 100m rides :)
Tough race and bumpy rides but so much fun.

I had a pretty good view of mist of the front guys for most of the race and there was a heap of good racing going on. The front 3 took of from the start and pulled a 15 m gap on the 2nd 4 guys just after the first turn, Lincoln got a small lead then trav and beau caught up and pulled away those 2 had a great battle all the way with Lincoln just behind and then there was Jake, Dave and Sam just in front of me with Jake taking a more north line and Dave and Sam staying south, Jake fell behind for a bit but seemed to get a second wind and pull ahead of Dave with Sam not to far behind and that's how it stayed but it was great to see some close racing going on and stoked for all the winner and every one that did the race!! It was also good to get some DW conditions..

Might want to check those results a few mistakes mid pack, Stimo is reckons he is going to get those results printed on a t shirt as it says he beat DC and you also have Mike Galvin taking the win.

Yeah I heard a few of those results were wrong, I fixed up what I could last night, but the SUPracer results:

www.supracer.com/the-doctor-sup-results-2013/

are just taken straight off the raw Ocean Paddler results:

http://results.racetectiming.com/Results.aspx?CId=115&RId=38&EId=1

which are still showing Mike Galvin first over the line and Stimo/Scotty M fairly high up. If someone over there can check with the Ocean Paddler guys today, maybe they can sort out the mix up.

Mike Galvin is listed in the "Over 14? Rudder" class. There's also a few mistakes in the "SUP Male 12?6? to 14?" class.

Were you wearing timing chips or was there just someone taking times at the line?

All had timing chips on.
On aside note it was great to see all the top guys all wearing the life jackets even though the rules were changed at the last min and some of them could have just worn the bum bag style to me it showed good sportsman ship!!

If you all had timing chips then some of the guys must have been given the wrong chip number, so that it didn't match up with their rego number.

Maybe Mike Galvin's number was being used by a ski paddler, and Stimo/Scotty's numbers were mixed up with other SUP paddlers, or something like that.

Same thing happened in the Battle of the Paddle Distance Race last year (I remember Danny Ching had Jim Terrell's chip for some reason, so Jim was temporarily the winner), so it's probably an innocent mistake.

Are the Ocean Paddler guys still around over there? See if they know what's up.

There is another race on today so Dean and all the organisers are still over here.

The rules weren't changed last minute re life jackets/bum bags it was something that SUPWA had approached Dean about and he said that for SUPWA members they could wear the bumbags. I am sure Greg (the president) will chime in with all the details and exactly how and why it happened.

Having said that were there ski guys wearing the bumbags? Because if they were it seems unfair that only the SUPs had to wear jackets.

That's all cool but no one from the east coast knew about it and if it was not last min thing then everyone should have been notified! No real big deal though everyone had unreal fun and it was goodd to see the wind for the race.

Happy with the results as they stand now on SUPracer, did better than I thought!
Sorry stimo we've been swapped.

Results aside, fantastic event and great run. Stoked for the organizers that the weather turned it on for them, after 2 years of unseasonal bad luck. Great to meet some extraordinary paddlers and great SUP people from around Australia and the world. Zane thanks for the history lesson on windsurfing, you've got a pretty impressive family legacy.

Some of the best runs ever! Legs still wobbling thinking about it.

Still trying to get them fixed. There were quite a few mistakes in the official results and I've heard different anecdotal accounts of the placings, so it's tricky getting it all sorted...

The official raw results have been updated in the past half hour, so maybe the Ocean Paddler guys are onto the mistakes.

http://results.racetectiming.com/Results.aspx?CId=115&RId=38&EId=1

If you know your placing/time in the meantime, let me know.

Marcus: Your official time just got changed. You've now been given the exact same time as Andy Davies. Do you know if you were ahead or behind him?

You'd need a photo to split those 2. A great sprint up the beach to the finish line. Not easy with jelly legs!

Thanks ak.

Just to get this settled once and for all, does anyone know which of these is right:

7th: Paul Jackson
8th: Zane Schweitzer
=9th: Andy Davies
=9th: Marcus Tardrew
11th: Scott McKercher
12th: Greg Kerr
13th: Dale Chapman

OR

7th: Paul Jackson
8th: Zane Schweitzer
9th: Scott McKercher
10th: Greg Kerr
=11th: Andy Davies
=11th: Marcus Tardrew
13th: Dale Chapman

OR

7th: Paul Jackson
8th: Scott McKercher
9th: Greg Kerr
10th: Zane Schweitzer
=11th: Andy Davies
=11th: Marcus Tardrew
13th: Dale Chapman

If you made Top 10 you deserve proper credit for it. Plus I'm a bit of a perfectionist with results on SUPracer.com, gotta get it right.

From memory, I don't think any of those are correct. Scott mckercher was well back in the field, mike galvin's name should be in and around that list of names also.

hope they can get it sorted.

if you train, pay the fee and paddle that distance you want the right race result.

it's not splitting hairs at all. to right off anything past the top five is just a lack of respect for the competitors.

without the other competitors there would be no race

feel sorry for dale. this seem to happen to him just about every second race he does

Hi chris,
Andy and Marcus where equal 9th, Dale after them then Steve then mike galvin who was first in unlimited division, then myself (Ben Tardrew) next, pretty sure this was correct as we where all reasonably close.
Hope this helps

Thanks for the help guys, let's go with this:

www.supracer.com/the-doctor-sup-results-2013/

One or two of the times may still be wrong but hopefully the placings are correct

Even the Battle of the Paddle got their timing chips wrong, so it happens to the best of races. But let's not let this little issue overshadow what was an awesome paddle from Travis and Beau.

Stoked to see Travis back on top after being out for so long with an injury and then switching equipment and playing around with prototypes from scratch.

As for the boards, this is my guess:

1st: Travis Grant, DC/NSP Prototype (14' x 25')
2nd: Beau O'Brian, Starboard Ace (14' x 25')
3rd: Lincoln Dews, Starboard Ace (14' x 23')
4th: Jake Jensen, Naish Javelin LE (14' x 23')
5th: Dave Kissane, probably Starboard Ace
6th: Sam Parker, probably Starboard Ace
7th: Paul Jackson, prototype Fanatic
8th: Zane Schweitzer, something Starboard

The times for the Mandurah Duel where not accurate either.

Do the Ocean Ski's and Canoes have the same problem, could be annoying for the elite guy's that travel around and are chasing points.

Do you think there's just no care factor for SUP's besides the top 3 across the line?

Sam was on 2012 Starboard Ace (14'x25")
Zane was on 2013 Starboard Ace (14'x23")
