Now that all the advertising hoo haa has calmed down did anyone buy the Hawaiian supertanker. After all the breathless reports of SUP nirvana are we still in love.

Doesn't seem that way.

If we are talking about the one that got the biggest wrap.

After seeing it and hearing what others have said about it.... I get the impression that it is the equivalent of a jack of all trades master of none - not that there's anything wrong with that.

Never really heard much more hype from anyone about PSH gun after this topic.

www.seabreeze.com.au/forums/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=52969

I think it's probably a great all round board, small surf, massive surf, flat water, down-winders. But not really a board that was built specifically for any of these activities.

Have one on order, due soon
It’s my first SUP, and picked it because of its reported all rounder abilities.
Borrowed the demo a few times, been having lots of fun. Very solid piece of watercraft & has given me confidence very quickly. It does motor through a section.
Loose, umm … nup, but the glide on a wave face makes up for it for me at this stage. Had a few wave faces with enough room to bury a rail and get a few rollercoaster’s in and it accelerates quickly, slowing down is more of an issue! It is a tank, but a fun one

I heard something similar. Lookielookie's Deth Stick looked more appropriate in big surf.

Well Oliver I almost agree with you totally on that summary.

I believe that it will be a fantastic big wave board and I will find out in a couple of weeks, when my one turns up.

There is a local bombie I have unfinsihed business with to try it out on.

You need to be a BIG UNIT to get the best out of it IMO

I seem to remember a post here not long ago where the PSH gun was surfed in overhead x 2 + and got a rave review. The pedigree of this board has been tried and tested by BC and others in huge surf. The fact this board performs well in other situations is an added bonus and a credit to the designer's skills.

Pete....with lots of luuuuurve and good karma to all

pete, if you were after a bigger all rounder would you go for the 12'. By all rounder I mean would it do downwinders , paddle out to outer reefs, paddle to better looking breaks along the beach, still put a smile on you face in 1 ft summer waves etc?. I think I answered my own question

I think the big boards do get a bad wrap here. Yeah, I'm a wanker and will get myself a bigger 14' carbon downwinder to compliment my 10'6 stonker, that works for me in the surf.

But gee I'm going to miss my big yellow aircraft carrier. Lot's of us start on one board and I still love the beast and will miss her when she's gone.

Gorgo was wrong - I'll never put her in my hard rubbish collection, I'll give her a good home.

From what I can gather log man it would appear the 12' is not really suitable for downwinders but it's not something I've done and have to defer to those with more experience in that area of expertise.

But yeah, I like big boards and the way they have to be ridden. So over the shortboard scene - prone paddling that is. Horses for courses. Doesn't matter what you ride as long as your having fun

The ideal downwind board is still a hot topic that is discussed often. I don't think we really know what works best just yet for every condition.

I'm a bit of a storm chaser and living in Melbourne the bay is the closest place that I can get to and during a gale the waves are close together and steep. I think I am just guessing that a 14' is the way to go - none of us are really sure as we haven't tried it.

Out of all the times I've been out the starboard and the glide appear to do really well and both are around 12' but I've also seen people on the 11'6" and 11'2 naish keep up and do just as well, so it's probably as much about the balance and skill of the rider. Personally I think being stable is the key. When you fall off you lose lots of ground so you want a board that you are not going to fall off at every hickup.

The real challenge for me is not getting there first but coming off my board at the end of it dry.

Aloha

Not from Australia but the 12'0 gun is still the most used board in our garage. The board is used for 8-10 mile flatwater paddles each week, borrowed by co workers to learn on weekly, used in downwind scenario's like racing or cruising (You won't win but you won't come in last), Tandem Suping, fishing off, Spear fishing off, Surfing small waves (Leave the riding big waves to the pro's), etc. It is still our most versatile board for my family. Not the board for everyone but in the end we all like different flavors of ice cream and that's what is so beautiful about each one of us.
If anyone ever is visiting Maui and needs a board more than welcome to use.

P.S.

Original version is here with music that Ollie might like or remember from his days prior to getting dragged into the church that one day while hanging in the car...JK

Mr Chapman,

Said he has a new 12 or 14 downwind board (cant remember the length it was a week or so ago and information down load on downwinder was achieved after 3mins with them) foot all round board that also surfs and does well in most conditions???

Lacey was pretty stoked about it and so was Dale, they had that we know something you dont know smug look all over them when discussing it.

I only invested a few hours with those guys but they seem to build lots and lots of these boards. Down wind racing is Dales passion.

I know zip about down winders, so for me the voldermort will have to do with a monster size QB paddle.

Aloha Phil

We have 2 12'0 guns and decided to experiment with making one a quad. I really cannot give too much feeback because we are waiting for head high plus so I can ride it in the quad setup and see how it works. I won't let my son take it out in the bigger stuff because I don't want him to hurt himself or more importantly someone else. Will let you know how it works.

Did spend a couple of hours last Sunday flat water paddling swapping between the Naish Glide and the 12 gun.
Paddle speed difference between the two was minimal; in fact the 12 seemed a little faster especially into a bit of head wind. On a wave the 12 does surf like a surf board, where I felt the Glide surfed like a surf ski.
New to SUP but surfed for 40 years and have done the OC1 thing as well so pretty sure the extra volume particularly in the tail of the Glide would make it noticeably easier to catch ocean runners. But down winders are not my priority and the idea I can play and do a few turns on a runner if I do catch one makes up for them being harder to catch.
