These N-S runs are probably better suited to shorter boards than the S-N runs are on the GC.

Not really anything in the ocean off the GC, unfortunately.

There are some good runs down the Northern NSW Coast as well as the North Straddie to Redland run inside Moreton Bay.

Hey Noel,

Yes mate, there is a "Plan C" in place and will be hatched in the next 24 hours. We have taken in to consideration all the necessary safety precautions for all involved.
As it stands with the “East North East” winds predicted along with the 3-4 foot of swell will give the competitors no relief from paddling against side chop and making their way through the beach break horrendous. As the Bureau of Meteorology has put it "An upper trough hovering over the Queensland interior is set to induce another deep surface trough/ low over the coast on Friday – causing ENE winds to start ramping back up in strength throughout Saturday"
So with saying this, the Race will still go ahead on Saturday 28th January along with the Prize Purse and Prizes but with an alternate Race course, that will suit every competitor. The new course design will be tough but very fun for all to experience.
The new Race UPDATE will be posted on this Seabreeze Forum, www.supsa.org, SUPSA Facebook and registered Race Competitors will also be notified via email and text message.Stay tuned for the next update!

Anything suit a NE'er?

they are doable , but harder worker. you sorta need to ride sideways over a lot of stuff when turn and get the more side ways stuff behind those swell wanting to break over your board.

so its ride over the swell and pivot on the top and grab the sides ways push behind it.

there are parts the head in the right direction.

i reckon a 14'er with a rudder would be the ticket

catch those main swells from the seaway and you'll be ashore at mainbeach

There are also plenty of options in the Gold Coast waterways, so one way or another you should be able to put something interesting together. There is a whole lot more to chose from on the GC than those boring Currumbin Creek options.

Here are some examples: Start at the end of Seaway World drive and end at either Via Roma Drive Bridge (8.8km) or Bermuda Street Bridge (11.2km).

URGENT UPDATE: “12 TOWERS OCEAN SUP RACE”

Based on current forecasts from the Bureau of Meteorology and advice received from a professional weather analyst, the predicted conditions will not favour this Saturday's running of the “12 Towers Ocean SUP Race 2012”.

The Event Directors have taken into consideration all possible scenarios, and have tried to apply alternate race options - none of which seem to fit into the event's structured safety measures.

On behalf of the Race Directors, I can confirm our final decision is to postpone this event – now scheduled for the following Saturday 4th February.

All other details regarding the race remain the same.

Those who have registered as at 24th January will be contacted via email with an option to refund registration fees to those who cannot compete the following week.

SUPSA would like to apologise for any inconvenience caused. We sincerely appreciate your support towards this event & look forward to seeing you all Saturday 4th February.

thats a good decision. it's been bucketing rain, it's suppose to keep doing that till sunday with howling onshore winds

its a ugly looking ocean and the creeks and rivers aren't going to be much better with all the run off from the rain.

Very ugly. Unfortunately we couldn't gain a permit for the Broadwater or anything in NSW waterways. But saying that, if the rivers become contaminated like what happened with Currumbin Creek with the last lot of rain we had, well that's another concern for us.
As we said, we apologise for any inconvenience this may have caused anyone but safety is our main priority.
Hoping all can commit and support us on Saturday February 4th!

Good call SUPSA and Troy. Let the weather ease and get everybody back out in the ocean.

Good call for sure. I was thinking one of those inflatable rapid riding boards might have been the board to have in these conditions

G'day PaulJ you're tripping out man I get 11.35km's when I map it out Kirra groin to Burleigh.

I know it's only early days, but forecast for next Saturday is looking very promising...
