Haha won't get hot under the collar, I appreciate the facts I have learnt from you. ill admit my first lot of research.. I clearly got the wrong idea about it all, however if I could of found a genuine Aussie made board made in a shapping shop on our shores for the budget I had I would of been really keen to check it out. I don't know to much about it but is there a reason people arn't shapping boards on Australian shores like the surfboard industry does??
The reason I went with atlantis over the gulliver was a couple of reasons, 1 gulliver weren't offering the 11foot for under $1000. and after yes finding out that the advertising they are putting out there is a little misleading about the making of the boards, when atlantis also a Aussie company but are totally upfront about the design etc done here but all boards made in china. they arn't trying to hide anything about their product at all which sits a lot better with me. From what I could find anyways
I know the sale price has been the sale price since day dot, I was just going off the atlantis website price which if you purchased a board direct from them that is what I guess you would be paying.
My question would be and I'm sure a lot of people would like to know the true figures.
How much does the surfboard warehouse really pay per board from the supplier to find out how much profit they are making on each sale,
Then say the same situation with the leading brands ie: naish how much are the shops buying the boards for and how much are they making on each sale,
I wounder if the markup on the brand names Is a lot greater than the cheaper brands ???
Is the surfboard warehouse truly taking a lesser cut in profit from each board standup and surfboard to turn over more in turn making the business plenty or are the boards they are buying so cheap that their profit margins for each board are the same as the shops selling the brand name boards??
It is likely that the cheaper (lower quality) boards require a higher margin to cover the risk of returns which are a cost to the seller. This means the sale price is even more inflated compared to the true value of the item. Better quality boards have less risk so they don't require that to be built into the margins, at least not to the same extent, hence you can get more board for your money and the cost to value ratio is better for the buyer
I too was looking into the Atlantis sup so when I went onto there website that hasn't been update for quite some time (march) there wasn't much info about it. However it did state that you could buy 4 soft top paddle boards with 4 carbon adjustable paddles for $550 each. At those wholesale prices you would say the paddle is $100-$150 leaving the board value @ $400-$450. If the s/w is buying from Atlantis directly, there is still the margin Atlantis puts onto there cost price, so it really made me second guess the quality of this board, is it made cheaply? I will say they visually great to look at but I was planning to use my board not have it as decoration on my car roof. I really hope these are a great board for the people that have purchased them, but I decided on a over priced name brand board.
They get their boards from www.sydneysurfindustries.com.au I got the 9'6 Atlantis Halo, it surfs great and is holding up really nicely so far.
I want a refund for my Atlantis halo shouldn't it direct itself around reefs ?????
Haha jokes on me
This is the aftermath after my offshore paddle this afternoon,
Low tide took off from the beach and straight out for a couple of km into the bay, was tough work winds of 25k straight into me felt really good paddling into it and making good ground, time to come back in and for the first time enjoying paddling downwind back to shore was loving it catching my first runners and and lapping up that first glide feeling,
Then the rookieness all came flowing back into me really quick, totally forgot how low the tide was still and how much the wind was pushing me back in and forgot about the little sharp rocky reef I had to paddle AROUND to get out... Whoops!!! Wave pushed me sideways and off I went straight onto the reef on my side, luckily board didn't get anything more than tiny dint in the nose but unluckily for me I rolled over the rocks a couple of times then tried to take a few steps to grab the board slicing underneath both feet..
Pride is hurt wife thinks I should stick to running but my board review so far I'm really happy with this board and how it's performing out in my local bay so far..
