Snapped Naish........what happened?

So what happened to the South African fella with the snapped Naish??

Not a Naish though he seemed upset about it,
I'd say admin pulled it as I think it was a first time poster bagging a brand

Justified or not, doesn't make sense to pull a thread if it's a legit post and not some secret agent provocateur.

That said, all boards will snap in the right (wrong?) conditions.

First time poster - If I was admin I would bin.

If it was a regular on here who posted with a legit complaint that could be backed up then fair dos.

But....mind that these companies pay this site advertising etc.

This isnt a site for the manufacturers! its for the users. I didn't read the thread or what was said, but you cant pull a thread because someone says they have a broken board?? Readers will make their minds up on it. the moderators shouldn't do it for them :(

It would be totally disingenuous on the part of the administrators to pull any thread of this nature on a presupposition without
any basis. It does not logically follow that a first time poster claiming to have an issue with a board somehow has an agenda.

What should be of concern here is the devaluing of the forum in order to save face for a manufacturer who happens to be paying
for the privilege of having their logo appear on this board, if in fact this is happening.

Holistically this forum could not survive without a number of major players, one of which represent those organisations who are
willing to advertise here. The other major player is the people who frequent this board and make this the place that it is and who
are deserving of honesty in the absence of any interventionist policy that moderators might have in order to curry favour for the
sake of money.

Lets hope that is the case.

I've split my own board in half and it was no Naish.

Drop 4,000lb of water on a board and it's going to break.

4,000lb = 2 cubic meters of water

I noted a Naish Nalu ended up in two at the SUP world champs at Sunset.....but that is big surf!

I have seen both a Naish and a Starboard in 2 pieces and I creased a big Bic sup. Big boards in the surf without a stringer have a lot of leverage on them when they get hit by a wave in the wrong place. The c4 boards seem pretty strong but everybody wants a light board and i doubt if many manufacturers will guarantee against damage in the waves. Dissapointing if you have just paid big money for a new board but I would love to find a snapped Hokua x 32 in the bin, anything can be fixed with epoxy and cloth.!

Probably not many if any! The 9 6 c4 I had said it had 3 stringers but they may have gone to a different construction now from looking at their website. Perhaps new materials/techniques don,t need stringers anymore but they don,t look very strong when they are in 2 pieces. Still I have snapped a few surfboards with stringers too so I,m happy to leave the pro,s to decide how to build them.

And I have seen with my eyes a friend's 10'6" Nalu break not in two, but in three! (folded at the front of the pad + 2' forward of it), on 1' mediteranean waves... But it was a second hand board, no way to know he previous abuse it got.

This said, a big deal of bad luck is involved when folding boards. It can happen to any brand/shaper, especially on longer boards. But stringerless without reinforced (carbon, kevlar) rails will definitely be more prone to folding.

Also, some brands have bad batches of boards, so they can get the bad rep of a damaging post forever while the current construction is now top notch...

The best source of info would be your local repairman. He knows what consistently breaks more than average, and some brands definitely do (but it depends of the year).

Really the board breaking isn't the issue. It's the moderators choice to remove the post.........and why. To me the guy seemed ......I stress SEEMED to be legitimate. We all know boards will break given the right forces but guy was stressing the board snapped in benign conditions. Does Naish have a problem with their boards???...... is the guy scamming????......Who the hell knows!

I don't think there was any real need to remove the thread. As someone mentioned before, this is a "public forum" where the public should be able to say whatever they feel, provided there's no bullying or indecent profanity.

I really don't think that the reputation of Naish or their amount of sales would have been affected by that post at all. It certainly wouldn't deter me from buying boards from them. They make a great product, but sometimes ** happens!
