I have the 8'2" JP Wide Body. Added a 5th box. But still trying to fine tune it. This new Naish looks like what i'm looking for. I won the USA 40+ championships on the JP. I think I can improve, but not willing to spends $2500. Would love to demo in the US
How does it go in slop.... as a summer board. I have been critical of the LE hokuas needing to be lit on a wave, u cant grovel them. like say a starby pro or JP.. is the wide one better in its rocker line, or is it just a wide LE needing some punch in a wave?
skebstebamal great question! Any answers?
Tommmy ive got a 7'10 in my garage to test that ocean addicts put into demo!! ive loaded a shapers SQ7 quad set...
Ill answer my own question and let you know.
Ok. 7'10x32 tested. ran it with shapers stealth SQ7s. weighed in at 94.5kg. supping 12 months. competant surfer. current ride 8'10 fanatic pro wave carbon.
The surf was left over 1-2 foot NE windswell from yesterdays northerly. the odd shoulder high one. breaking on outer bank and mushing out into gutter.
This board is seriously fun!! its quick to accelerate given a bit of wall and being so short u can chuck it up at the lip easy as.
it is slower rail to rail when working speed down the line compared to a 29 wide, but them the brakes. i got a couple of decent round houses in and a top turn here and there. This board can be rail turned. my first few were dishies, but as u get used to it get on a rail.
stabilty is very good. imho it probably could lose maybe 5 litres out of it. i did catch the front rail when paddling onto waves, but a quick adjustment to my eagerness and all was good.
when the boys at Luke at ocean addits first showed it to me i thought, too wide, too corky and thick. oops i was wrong. for a big bloke wanting a small board give one a go. best fun ive had for a while since probably buying my 9'2 allwave as first board 12 months ago.

Lots more rocker than JP
Now that is for quality waves - not for messing around in average surf by average riders.
Wow - whole lotta rocker on that board... maybe too much perhaps? I really liked the sounds of this board but some how I'm leaning more to the JP. And totally agree with Slab that this isnt really for average waves or riders IMHO.

I have a JP 8ft 8 Surf widebody - I'm average in less than average waves - really like the board....very forgiving and easy to surf. Probably has more performance in it than I can give it but reckon its about as good as you can get for a mass production board of its size. I would say the only drawback for some might be the lack of fin options - others have added a fifth fin box but I'm not keen on that personally..it suits a quad set up and I've no issues...does all I need it to do.
If I was capable of surfing better/steeper/bigger waves then the Naish looks great!
Hi SSB, good review of the 7 10. So do you think it will go in average, small waves? Does it need to be pushed/pumped to get it going, or does it build up its own speed? Also, how's it paddle/wave catching ability? I'm low 80s kgs. Many thanks.

I was very surprised how it went in small stuff. It gets up and boogies. Much better than your 8'3 or 8'10 hok le. i havent tried it in messy waves, so not sure whether it will slow down a touch in those conditions.
Give it even the slightest wall and she is off.
paddling wise it def drops in a little later but still ok, plenty of nose rocker to keep it makeable. its about 3-4 paddles per side, less when in whitewater. i did catch the rail a bit when taking off a few times, but i think that is just getting used to a short board. at your weight it will be very stable.
That's great. Thanks, LT
No worries. Lohit, it may be a bit too big if your in low 80kg's. I've got 10 kegs on you and I can stand on it in glassy conditions without a paddle in the water....and i'm not the most stable paddler....getting better, but not great.
Hi Skeb'l , so you are saying theyre so corky you cant oversize one iota ? im 74kgs ... want a carbon , (currently use 8'5 & 9'10 hoks - and can throw the 9'10 around fine) , LEnarrows sound like they need powerful big walls ALL the time (but maybe my 74kg would run fine on an 8'10LE x 28 and have bit more low end power) .... was hoping LE32's would be a replacement - with enough rocker to balance out the excess width , good push on slower waves / reforming walls etc .... radical enough but plenty stability , I was even thinking goin 8'3 & 9'1 , for bit of glide on shifting peak days ... but from what your saying - no way ?!

breezer i reckon the 7'6 hokua would be good at your weight. i got some really fun ones today in on shore stuff on the 7'10... its still ok to stand on for me at 95 kegs
Nice intro from Robby is now up on the Naish site, I want one ![]()
Can't seem to imbed it here though...?http://naishsurfing.com/HOKUA%20X32%20LE%20SERIES-Versatile%20Performance%20Wave/
Hey, I am curious about the 8'8 or 8'3 as a bigger board for choppy surf for an experienced 80kg+ rider? You know those days when there is cross chop and onshore breeze and you just want to relax and concentrate on catching waves not staying up on the smaller board and burning legs out. I have a Fanatic 8'5 Pro Wave LE which is my 'go-to' board and a 9' Hokua but thinking about a 8'8 or 8'3 X32 to replace the 9' Hokua for the choppy/windy days when the 8'5 Pro Wave is too frustrating and leg burning. I have the 9' Hokua for these choppy conditions but reckon the wider X32 will be more stable and at home in crappy conditions but still deliver the performance I want?...
StevO it would work well!! only problem is u might not get back on your small boards.
8'3 would be plenty at mid 80's if ur a reasonable surfer.
I had the 9'1" for a while but found it to be too much board/volume for my taste. That being said, I reckon the 8'3" would be a heap of fun in small messy stuff!
Fin set up on the Hokua - Pick up my new Hokua LE 8"8 on Wednesday :) As its configuration allows for quad or thruster setup, some feedback would be great - I am thinking quad for smaller, messier surf and thruster for bigger/steeper, but keen to get some more experienced opinions. Thanks - Cooper
I got to briefly try the 8'3 X32 in waist high mushy gutless groundswell. I swapped over from my Fanatic 8'5 Pro Wave and immediately felt the stability @85kg and a reasonable SUP surfer. I thought it was nice to stand on a board and properly relax my legs as can't really do that on the 8'5 most of the time. Paddling for waves was surprisingly easy in terms of tracking and it got lift from gutless little waves at the point my 8'5 would have dropped off it - so that was cool.
Then once on the wave face it trimmed sweet but you can really feel the 32" of width. I moved my foot over the inside rail to initiate a turn but was really rewarded with immediate response and drive! But what amazed me was the super loose bottom/top turn - it just hit the lip and whipped around like nothing else I have ridden! (I have a 9' Hokua and the Fanatic 8'5 Pro Wave). I got the same result going back side too!
I have heard some complaints that the X32 is slow but in slow mushy waves it's hard to generate speed anyway so you seem to get a slo-mo glide on the wave face but rewarded with a super loose bottom/top turn transition - weird but super fun in the crappy mush.
I took out the 9' Hokua after the demo on the 8'3 X32 and felt I couldn't even turn the Hokua and it felt awkward in these sort of waves after riding the X32. (The 9' Hokua rips DTL in good stuff though - but I don't get those conditions very often.)
The 32" width will be a handful in proper waves for me so the 8'5 Pro Wave is probably going to be the 'go-to' board for when it's on - but I can see the X32 being the 'go-to' board for waist-to-shoulder mushy waves or when there is a cross-chop and the 8'5 gets to frustrating.
