Well, third session is done and dusted. What a contrast to the last.
Solid 6' plus sets, blowing hard across wind. double and triple ups.
Paddling 10 to 1 just to stay on track!
Took a while to figure the waves and get a read on the action. Pull into the lip and only one thought hots. Trust the board, take the drop and put it on the rail.
Wow, just sublime. Takes off, turns, reverse to get back to the pocket, out again. Down the face, up the wave into the wind protected area, couple of strokes and off again.
Just a super board. Fast enough to get in front of the section, controlled enough to turn, take offs and down the line.
Just a super board in all sorts of conditions.

I have finally identified a fault with the board.

The riders lack of ability!

Long hard paddle back out but 500m plus rides are a treat with time to think and work the water.

Super, Super board. Very happy.

Oh ****. Now I am jealous. Where is that? Have not seen waves that good in a long time here in my neck of the woods!

Wind SE, Swell SW, Tide running out hard straight into the face. Double. tripple, quad up waves. Cross chop and anything else you can throw in to a 3-5 foot swell hiting a sand bank. Call me Tetley! Tea bag from getting dunked that is.

Yes I went in a few times more than usual. But stuck with it and you go out in the **** sessions to appreciate the good times more. As usual, on the wave , great performance. Cut backs are now comming easily and working on the surfing not the standing more and more. Still a good stick I am happy with! Would not give it back.

Am down to approx $24 a wave now. Still way cheaper than a ski ticket and dropping!

Both boards are loose and ride beautifully on waves. The 8 2 did surprise me in the way it stayed with waves as they fattened up.

I went the 8 8 as I am looking at a slightly more all round board and something to help me improve to the next level. That is what I am getting out of it.

The 8 2 would be more performance suited and better for a more experienced surfer. Or be a board someone like me can have in the cupboard for the ideal clean glass 4-6 conditions.

Sadly for me I take what Nature dishes up when I hit the beach, so I have to have a board that will do that with me. Hence 8 8

I demo'd the 8'8" in very poor 1-2 ft waves which I was happy to do. I generally ride the SUP board when the conditions are usually worse than good and if it is good I ride my short boards.

I found the surf wide to be a really fun board, as you said it is easy to catch waves and rides like a surfboard. I was worried the nose may catch as the waves get larger and steeper but from your reviews it doesnt seem to be a problem. I would be interested to hear your opinion on how it paddles?

I found after 3 or 4 strokes it tends to get to a certain speed and then bogs down a bit (it seemed to be 'pushing a lot of water') This may have been because of my weight distribution being wrong (only had a short demo.) The irony to that was, it paddled into the waves with hardly any effort (not a lot of speed) and once on the wave it accelerated nicely.
I was wondering if you experienced the same?

I am interested in downsizing and this board is on my short list along with the JP 9'2" Surf, although I havent been able to demo the surf model.

Had my 8'2" for a few months now and couldn't be happier! Here's a quick clip I shot while trying out a paddle mount at the Alley last Thursday (waves 1-2ft max, incoming tide).

Are these available in New Zealand ?
