BP try them both mate. I'm 82kg and the SV works great for me. The GL is a great price though beats the hell out of Starboard and Naish for NZ prices!

If you cant float it in chop, then there is no way i can and standupper will be in the crap at 95kg so get out on your wifes board and let us know

LOL weekend hopefully

From your photos they look surprisingly similar in shape. The GL maybe has a slightly fuller nose. I am keeping my 9' x 33" SB Hero (146Lvolume) for the small and choppy days. I'm just a bit worried the Lopez 126L volume will float my 95kg ass to paddle around on good days. I guess it might just take a bit longer to get used to it.

Yeah the GL has a fuller nose with slightly more rocker. Small and choppy days at your weight I'd go SV 9'3 anyday over a hero. GL is super light and I've heard of big guys out in small chop but I'd say the 9'3 would be better as more fin options.
The hero is just a scaled down whopper from what little I know about it and my wife started on the whopper loved it till she knew her stuff but didn't want to go to the hero as wanted a faster board.

Yeah the Hero is not particularly fast but is worlds apart from the Whopper in performance and speed. I do like the sound of the stability and speed the Svectors are renowned for although The Lopez is supposed to be quick too. I am after a decent step up in surfing performance but over summer here there is almost always wind and chop so I don't want a board I can only take out half the year. I wish I could demo them like the Aussies can!

Have you looked into the ubersmooth? kagey is 95+kg and is on that board
Selling at the same price

Good call BP! If they were the same price I'd say the 9'3 but PM Kagey and see if he's been out again as the Uber looks cool too. I wish we had all the choices they had over the ditch and the chance to demo all those boards

The Ubersmooth looks fun but Its not a good allround board. I can't imagine you could hold a rail in any decent surf as the whole thing is basically a disc with nothing resembling a straight line. I would love to have a go though.

It would be fine but 9'3 would be better and even though its shorter they say it is more stable because of the bottom shape.

Remember we don't live in Hawaii or even the Gold Coast. The surf is different here, Much mellower. I could be wrong but I think most of the regulars on this forum that ride skinny short boards in Australia would be riding something different if they lived here.

The Mctavish 9'6 would be a great option for you. A really good surfing board but slightly more volume and stability. It would be a while before you grew out of that. There are some arriving in about 5 weeks $2299 I think.

The McTavish 9'0 is right on the 130L you were talking about but I really think you would struggle on it.

They are both good looking short board SUPs too

I dont like the mctavish boards GSI , Looks like c4 is getting a good look in
Will have to demo one, Just seems to be built for a lot bigger than me

With out getting the demos under my belt my next board is the 9'3 subv or the lill darlin
At 88kg i think i might be fine on the lopez

From what I've seen and experienced with both boards I'd say the 9'3 would be more versatile. If the waves you surf are slow and small the Lopez will struggle more than the 9'3 to get you going. Demo them both and the Naish 9 last week’s favourite then you'll know; if the waves are right on the day

Its a bit like buying a computer do I go core i5 7200rpm or core i3 SSD both very simular performance but different at the same time; each with its benefits There is no silver bullet IMO

We do get really good surf here and over winter its regularly been overhead but it is not normally "hollow" "sucky" waves. Many people would say ideal SUP waves. I'm really looking for a board for good days shoulder to double over head size waves, Fast and loose.

Let us know when you get a chance to paddle the Lopez. Cheers

I would say noosa waves are near what we have here, so should be a good demo.

I did have my fav naish but as standupper points out the surf will like a flat rocker more.

Standupper grab a ticket for noosa and i can put you up for the weekend

What do you think the min weight is to make that 9'2 subv work i know the top end is huge but what is the light end ? As in being to light to bury the rail 80kg

I think between my 88kg and standuppers 95kg there is not a lot in it so maybe 2 x subv at scourbrough.
I know what i like and i know what i dont, But as we dont get to demo in nz we cant work out what is right /wrong and just the shiza

A mate of mine just picked up a old jimmy lewis 11x30 nice old school board

Standupper have you gone off the finatic 9 Dont think we get them till the end of oct NZ sucks sometimes

HAAA i did not see the lopez was 127litres or less 125 was it?

Standupper are you mad, drunk or ??

If i could get away on it i would buy it but only if it was good in all conditions

So, I think im going to get a subv 9'3 a big steep down from the mana but a lot more performance. Also still stable

But come the weekend i may have 3 others under my arm

Dali, I hear what your saying to us on the 9'3 but i cant help but remember you saying it hates late drops, Here as standupper will say as well i think is we live with late drops

I got worried because they don't list volumes and JB posted a comment that at 95kg three quarters of the deck was underwater and he guessed the volume at about 110L. Also a long wait, I think I have already missed the cut off for the order coming in mid october so who knows when I could get my hands on one? And they are expensive.

I just check the website and they have updated it. Fanatic Fly Wave 9'0 is 118L. Now thats getting a bit crazy for me.

Min weight on a subv 9'3 is 83kg i think, top end is ..................... way up there

But still if you were 80kg i dont think it matters so much as where you surf it and the conditions i presume, As here is chop in summer i think the added volume will be a + for a lighter rider of 80kg

Just flexing the brain realy

Read on a US forum a guy at 70kg loving the 9'3 and another one at 72kg not so personal pref I guess and the waves you ride.

To all of you who didn't believe it was for the wife...this is the wife

I've not done a review before so it might not be with the usual lingo but here goes:
OMG I love this board!!
She is super light, even just to carry, but on the water she turns on the slightest pressure. Moves that were taking a lot of effort on the Oxbow, and couldn't be even accomplished on the Element, were done with such ease.
She is fast down the line, keeping beautifully in the pocket and sooo responsive.
The rocker is great, and geos over white water with ease - I even managed to do it standing up.
They were pretty choppy conds so I fell off loads of times, but even though it was windy she wasn't pushed down by the wind that easily.
And when I got a wave it was so much fun

This thread has turned into a game of verbal tennis.

lil darlin - glad you like your new board and welcome to the breeze... I will steal yer board for a wave or two when I manage to get out again and you can sample the ubersmooth.

Dave i'm hanging out for a go on that 9'6".

I reckon all the boards mentioned will go well for us and lets face it we aren't exactly pro's

Envy you mate and with those dimensions it'll be stable as and coming down from a 9.5 board won't be a problem with your surfing experience and apparent ease on the mana.

I only surf mate, all depends what the deal is and the small problem or adding freight. I dont think our budget airlines like boards.

Anyway its a contender for sure but not set in concrete

Almost a better version of the 9'3 subv
