Is this board available in North America?

You were after advice just offering an option. I get heaps of pm's about the boards I ride, more direct route and you get honest feedback. There is a thread in the review section as well.

AA reckons it is a classic like the 12er was. I think I will get one.

Still has a 12ver in mint condition if the new board is half as good buy it

Slightly different construction and Dim's on the Boardworks model
The BW model is molded PVC and slightly beafier.

The 12'6 and 14' Hull Ocean Paddler we have is Vac sandwiched PVC. Hand laid. No mould involved.

What would be the difference between the two constructions?
Would one be more durable than the other?
What about weight?
The dims are not the same?? Are they much different?

I'm about to put a deposit on a 12'6" here in the states...it is from Boardworks... not directly from BC @ PSH.

I have been stoked reading all the reviews...now I'm a bit weary. Should I be?

Just guessing, but the Boardworks models are probably early first generation models. These guys get the latest shapes before they hit our shores. PSH website doesn't even show the 12'6 PVC Vacuum bagged board yet. To get the latest one, you probably would have to contact PSH directly. The US mainland distributor, Onboard Watersports, doesn't show the PVC VB line up.

I just emailed PSH asking a bunch of questions. Dimensions, Construction, Weight, Volume and Colors.

When I get the answers I will post them here. From what I know the Boardworks version was just released at the latest 2012 Expo here in the U.S.

You might be right...it may have been updated since then with new construction and dimensions.

Again, will post once I get a response. (PSH is closed on Sundays...so hopefully I will get an answer tomorrow)

So you do not think the difference on Dim's will make any noticeable difference?

And construction wise...nothing to worry about?...You dig what Boardworks is putting out?

I only have enough $$ for a 1 board quiver...barely have that!!!...LOL.. but having a board of my own is way over due!!!

I think the 12'6" Hull Paddler is the answer.

Distance touring/ fitness/ surfing/ fishing are my priorities maybe a DW eventually.

Salt, the moulded Boardworks version will have slightly more volume and be a little bit more forgiving than the Vacuum bagged version we have.

Both the PVC Boardworks construcion and the PSH PVC sandwich are considered to be one of the best constructions available in a SUP. The only difference is how they actually manufacture them.

The PVC (Divinycell) skin is 3mm of high density laminate that increases durability without increasing weight.
The PVC also helps with dings and moisture penetrationn as its higher density makes it harder to break the surface and there is 3mm to get through before you hit the EPS core which can suck in water.

There are plenty of boards that will beat it point to point in calm to moderate conditions but its comfort and stability in chop, open ocean and rough conditions (down winders) along with its ability to crank a turn like no other board it's size puts it in a class of its own, we believe. If you read through the threads and comments on this board you will see that this is backed up by those who have spent time on it. Enjoy! Cheers AA

The Dim's are very similar. The BW version will have more float and stability. How noticeable depends on your weight and what you are doing at the time. Salt your local dealer could answer these in detail. Cheers AA

Aloha Dan,
If the conditions where you paddle or surf are choppy most of the time, I would go for the wider board. Blane designed the Boardworks 12-6 as a touring/paddling board, mostly for comfort and user friendly because its more stable. The 12-6 model we are testing is designed with a little more performance for surfing in mind, hence the narrower width and less thickness. As big as these boards are, our version is great in the surf. The Boardworks model which is thicker, will have more buoyancy and probably have better glide, although not as high performance as the one we're coming out with. Our 12-6, because its not as thick and wide as the Boardworks model, will have better surfing performance, but you'll also give up a little bit of glide and stability. If you're looking to surf this 12-6, the newer version will be a better choice.

Thank you so much for taking the time to explain the boards. It means a lot. Great customer service!!!

To clarify:

I will be touring/paddling probably 70-75% of the time...so I am leaning towards the Boardworks version.

I DO want to be able to snag SOME waves...nothing more than Hawaiian ripples...waist/stomach high...chest high @ best!!!

From what I gather from your response is that the Boardworks version will accomplish all that I want out of the board.

I think that if I am to start surfing more it would be in my best interest to get a a smaller PSH that is more surf specific at that time.

The version you are working on sounds awesome(and looks in the video's) but is more geared to skilled surfers looking for a bigger board that will really perform when they get to their out-of-the-way destination.

If the Boardworks version is able to be ridden in the surf I described and has better glide I think I should lean in that direction.

Do you agree?

You got exactly what I was trying to explain. Our version is geared more for surfing & performance. I think if you're not surfing with it as much the Boardworks would be a better choice. If & when you get your board, we hoped you're stoked with it.

No waves in the area so just going for a cruise.

The owner of the shop gave very explicit instructions, " You ding it, you buy it."

Almost nervous to take it out. I'm serious...LOL

Should give me a good idea whether it's the board for me or not.

OH and my older brother is going to be with me...it will be his 1st time paddling. Stoked!!!

Well, I took the Hull Paddler out for a spin today. Didn't make it to the ocean...my brother was visiting and it was his 1st time paddling...would have been too much for him. So STOKED...got to try the PSH and have my brother experience SUP'n. Does it get much better?

Back to the board...

I LOVE IT!!! It has great Glide...it's no full-displacement nose but I was impressed at how much glide I got out of it and how well it tracked. Not sure on the weight but I'd say it was in the mid-to high 20's...I doubt it made 30lbs. but not sure. It's initial stability was a little tippier than I expected...but quickly adjusted...the secondary stability is fantastic. The chined rails really help in that regard. I stepped back on the tail to do some pivot turns and wow is that thing responsive...yes, so much so I found the drink. LOL After a few attempts I found the "sweet" spot and was spinning around and around. I look forward to another go on it...ocean bound next time.

It is now on HOLD for me. I will be putting deposit on it asap and making a few payments on it...it's the best I can do. I feel like a little kid waiting for xmas morning...it just can't happen soon enough.

Ahhh the pic's...didn't have digital with...sorry...but I did take some with a disposable H2O proof...so I am going to see what I can do to convert them this week....sorry everyone/Gizzie
