Well she's coming out on Monday so I will see how I go.
Just a thought, is there any advantage to doing this when the hull is wet or do I wait for it to dry?
I'm thinking there would be less dust when wet but would it be easier to scrap or harder?

After revisiting the photos I would say a motor driven pressure washer would get a lot of that off easily. Have a mate with a flat scraper work with you and swap over regularly. Tidy up with a pull scraper.

Customers can use a less powerful one for $125 + gst per hour or it costs $200 + gst for them to use the big one. So I'm going to get them to have a go for a while and see how it goes. If it's not doing too much I'll get going with the scrapers as I think I can just pay them pro rata.
It's a lot of money but unfortunately it's just me doing the job so any help will be good I reckon even if it's not cheap.
an hour for 1 or 2 guys, with a decent washer, saving you from getting covered in wet ** ?
where do you pay the cash? do it., it will get as much of the AF off before you have to start the hard stuff.
Cav 28 wont take 1/2 each side anyhow.
Faster the better IMHO

Mate if keep them blasting for 2hrs it'll be money well spent. Yard hands are usually told to be gentle and not blow too much antifoul off, tell em you will give em a carton of their favourite amber refreshment if they can get the old antifoul off

Excellent advice... I use the facilities of the CYCSA.
They have a very powerful pressure sprayer for anyone to use and it gets everything off. We don't have the fast rate of barnacle growth, as you do on the eastern sea board.. But if you do have any hard to move barnacles, a flat scraper will soon shift them!!
Once it's dry. then a light sand .connected to a vacuum keeps everyone happy..

Yep like I said I'll let them go for it and see how it comes off. Happy to pay if it works and saves me some of the strong arm stuff.
And the idea of the carton might be a good one also.

No idea if the spray bottle will help, let us know how it goes. IMHO the reason for multiple layers of antifoul build up is from the belief that that remaining old antifoul still is good, so we will leave it and add some more. And worse still if it's sprayed on, at least a roller will pick up the loose stuff and stick some of it back haphazardly and the rest sticks on the roller for the operator to deal with
i'd do it dry.
You need the scraper to rip it in flakey chips as the fastest, if you wet it to help the scraper slide, its more likely to ride up to the top layer of A/F, where you are better off having all coats ripped back in one pass to the hull.
You'll understand what i mean once you have a go.
See if you can work with an edge to, so it chips away.
Pulling with handle downwards is easier, have 2 sections going at a time so you can swap/relieve muscles but still get trough it.
It wont take long.
Well she's finally back in the water. Been out 10 days all up.
With the scraping, the only think that worked was the Bahco pull scraper, nothing else touched it including the OZITO multi tool which got the paint hot and kept melting it on to the blade.
I used numerous blades, over 10 in total, some were shorter and worked better in certain areas.
It took me over 13 hours (of actual scraping) to do one side so I paid a guy from the marina to help me do the other. My shoulders and right hand were seriously sore after this.
Removed years and years of paint right back to the gel coat and then sand and fill, 3 coats of epoxy primer and 3 coats of Micron one anti foul. Went for black as I like the look.
Changed the Sea cock as well.
Its amazing the difference it's made to her.
But I wouldn't ever scrape that much paint off any boat again myself.
