So I am thinking of getting a small boat for me and my son to work on.
I have found this
Free boat,http://www.gumtree.com.au/s-ad/warners-bay/other-boats-jet-skis/free-boat/1199898539?utm_source=com.google.android.apps.docs&utm_medium=social&utm_campaign=socialbuttons&utm_content=app_android
How hard would it be to find a mast, rigging and cheap sails?
Cheers.
I know where there is an s&s 34 name starts with r can't remember it's name.
Built in Adelaide has a timber deck glass hull. Needs a rebuild if interested.
have you had a look around the boat shed at Rathmines, last time I was in lake Mac they had an an assortment of old small boats and parafinalia
I'd go with Rumblefish on the mirror.
Teach him some trailer maintenance along the way.
If it is not close by you have a father and son road trip to go and pick it up.
Win win

Thanks Guys.
Son is 14yrs and nearly 6ft. I want something for him to sail on his own when we are finished.
Something cheap/free that I can get parts for cheap as well.
Something that needs work doing to it. I want him to be able to spend some time doing it up. With my help of course.
I will keep looking to see if i can get parts for this one. Hopefully it wont go any time soon.
I am in Lake Macquarie.
What about a soling
Thanks twodogs.
Nice looking boats. But too big to keep at home.

Flying 15
That's a bit far, I have catamaran in nearly working condition, with pretty much everything double (two masts, two jibs, lot of lines etc) and trailer and i would sell it for like $500 to seabreeze member - but it's in Brisbane

That free NS14 hull could be cat rigged and sailed solo. The ns14 association had a separate class for car rigged boats. The mast was shifted forward a bit and they sailed reasonably well. No match for a Finn but it was a good use for out of date NS14 hulls.

the same advertiser also has an Oregon 175 X 100 with ample length to make mast & spars for the NS hull......??? ( if I was closer I'd buy the stick and take the boat to boot ! )
If you're both that big, forget the NS14 or similar, it'll be too much a squeeze to enjoy.
My second 2c, find a Hartley TS 16. You can not only do it up, sail it but you can spend a night or two camping up a creek somewhere.
Can't find one in NSW but here's one in VIC. Plenty around cheap if you
