I think with everything that's been going on, kids,life etc(plus slipping 2 boats in between) , i'm guessing my last sail was well over a year ago..

This causes unimaginable torment, you name it, Heath care, education, families, business, bla bla. Why ? Because an approved worker from Sydney couldn't resist the urge & had to break the restrictions. Some of our vaccines supply was redirected to the big smoke when the virus took off, as a result we are behind. Please think twice, we have a good percentage of venerable folks and limited hospitals. The vast majority of hospitalisation will occur in the initial stages of opening, & when local ICUs are full, it won't matter visitor or local .... no room, heart attack, stroke, etc no room. So please think twice. For the record this post is aimed at any reader not just forum posters

Having been locked out of running my boat by covid restrictions for months it looks like I'll finally be able to get to it next week.
Is there a need for any special care before I start the engine ?.

Just do the normal checks, oil, coolant, fan belt etc. The internals will still have a good coating of oil on them.
After start do a thorough check for leaks, loose bits, oil pressure (light if not gauge), alternator charging.
Before leaving the mooring put the engine under load for a few minutes varying the revs. In reverse on the mooring will do it. Sometimes an air bubble in the fuel injection won't be evident at idle but as soon as you put a load on the engine will stop.

Don't worry too much about a low oil level, check there is something in it, then start the engine and get it to correct operating temp. Then check it for correct level. Topping up the oil level that reads low on the dipstick in a cold engine, may well lead to over-filling.
I've been lucky that I live in the same LGA as my boat. It's been quite good on the two occasions I've been out. Once to Refuge Bay on a Saturday about three weeks ago, and there were 6 boats in America's and about 8 in Refuge. Quite eerie actually.....

Sam, all I can add is that when you fire her up keep a eagle eye on the raw water outflow & temp gauge it's possible that the intake through hull or the strainer or for that matter the raw water pump impeller may not operate as well as previously owing to fouling. And as a side note I've noticed on my own boat that when the raw water flow is restricted the exhaust note changes ie throatiere ( is that a word) & a bit louder

You should move up here. There's only four roads in from Sydney and we've got them nicely barricaded. :-)
Thanks fellers. OK I've taken all that on board. The raw water inlet fouling could be evident although we have brackish water in the Creek due to run off from the surrounding country and that keeps the weed and shell down somewhat. Thanks for the help.

Very keen to get out on the weekend, was going to have motors serviced tomorrow but put that back till later in the week D.O.W.
And Lazzz, I have put leave form in at work for 4 months off next winter to go north, hope you can get away too.
