I'd sell mine tomorrow if it would achieve that level of coin.

This Robber quarter tonner has been for sale for sometime locally. I have seen it regularly in Currambene Creek over the years and even went past it while it was on a mooring in Port Hacking quite a few years ago in my M&W26 quarter tonner. The M&W26 looked similar just a bit bigger.
The whole sad story is in the ad with the pictures.

As far as I recall this is the way the hull and topsides of all the Dufour 24 1/4 tonners of that very specific model and type were laid up - so foam sandwich for increased panel stiffness but no weight increased penalty, maybe a bit less weight. The idea was to fuse the outer and inner grp laminates together to prevent them delaminating from the foam core and also providing more in panel shear strength. A Javelin 14ft skiff I sailed on in the mid 70s did the similar "waffle panel" lay up with circular foam panel cut-outs not square and I thought it was a great idea and it certainly works as regards strength and stiffness but the circular cut-out geometry of the configuration became apparent on the hull and topside outer surfaces after a few months - it might have been the polyester resin long term age curing or the significant panel stiffness mismatch transition between the full foam sandwich thickness and the laminate only thickness squares. As far as I am aware the Dufour boats built with that type of foam sandwich panel in hull and topsides didn't have a structural problem. Believe it was solid glass laminates where needed. Not sure why this boat hasn't been sold by now. The original hull was a 1/4 ton title holder if I recall right and a pearler.

All the local ones I have seen are like this. This boat has been in the Wollongong harbour for some time, I often admire it from the coffee shop! the same chap who owns this boat also has an SS26 for sale on Gumtree. Some time back the owner contacted me looking for a mooring here for the SS26 [Yankee}, he wanted it moored closer to his residence. As often happens illness causes people to unload their toys.

I'm looking for something like that but not sure I can "clearly see" the top end overhaul. Might be a missing photo?

Yes expect so - be worth phoning him.

Boat is still for sale. Spoke to the owner today. He was a bit evasive but has some technical issue preventing him providing more photos. Has never had engine running and only assumes it is good "because you wouldn't reco the top end if the bottom end was no good". Very hard to get more details from him other than that a google search on the model would help. Suggested I buy it right away without seeing more.

There was some discussion about Compass 30's awhile back. This is a local one just came on the market. I see this one occasionally on the local slips and at Jervis Bay. Nice clean boat.

Looks good but a concise advert. The prior post is as below. The cabin line is stepped and hence different to the grp Compass / Easterly 30 built as in the below link. Maybe the boat for sale there was the timber plug for the hull mould? And the deck and cabin was all timber also? Maybe they changed the cabin geometry for the grp mould? Still a top boat.

If so obviously really unfortunate when this happens and ailing sellers can't access their boats to pass them on to the next custodian. In this case both yachts he has on his hands are of a very wholesome design and (presumably) build and should be structurally sound and should have a good life left and are well worth saving. SydChris if you are interested in this yacht or the Dufour 24 the seller has for sale I can comment on any issues and photos you might take during an on-board inspection. I am 1/2 life refurbishing the 14th and last yacht I will in this size range and have inspected many others in that range for mates and have seen good and bad structural details. Have dived during inspections on most purchases to check the hull, keel and rudder. Osmosis is mostly not able to be discerned during diving. So I am not wanting to big-note or be a pest just wanting to help. Yachts in the ~24ft range are the biggest bang for buck yacht imho - albeit for sure depends on what your needs are. Insurance needs to be managed, standing rigging age etc.

I spent sometime finding a mooring for the SS26. The owner was trying to get a mooring closer to his residence. We conversed by Facebook messages and he seemed keen on the SS26 and there was no mention of the Dufour so I would say the preferred boat for him was the Yankee SS26. A mooring did become available near mine when when the owner of a Clansman became too crook with cancer to continue sailing. It does not pay to wait till retirement to get out sailing your own yacht!

This boat was beside me and I wanted to buy it. The owner had let it go. Engine was sitting in water. There was a smashed bong, yes bong, in the v berth. I had gone about a few times to tie up the main sheer and other halyards flapping in the wind.
I contacted the owner and met up with him. Told me he bought it on a whim for 50 or 60k and couldn't sail. Told me a story about needing to be rescued when he took it out but the engine stopped or he couldn't work out how to start it. Carbon headsail stuffed into a quarter berth. I looked at the engine and offered him like 30k. He scoffed and said he wanted 50 or 60.

The Yankee 26 is down to 3 grand! Good value for a fibreglass yacht with an inboard diesel. 7 bags of sails.

Yep, we were moored a couple of boats west of it for a while years ago. The hatches had been left open and the mainsail was flopping around. I'd normally go on board and close the boat up etc but the whole thing was so weird that I wasn't sure whether the owner was sane. I can't work out how someone like that could get the money for any boat.

The 35s are a lovely boat, and it's sad to see one looking like that. The cracks at the base of the settees are surprising; as far as I know all J/35s and J/36s (same hull and deck mould) have a properly 'glassed in keel frame and their keels and hulls stay solid unless they get a core issue (which is something that seems to happen in the USA much more than here).

Lovely boat. Fine choice of autopilot. I take it the whole steering system is hydraulic?
