I am doing up my mirror to sell (so I can buy a redwitch), and never having painted a wooden boat's hull before, I do not know what paint I should use. Could someone please tell me what paint I should use?

What about prep-coats? And would I be able to get this just from a place like Bunnings or a boat orientated shop?

I would suggest White Knights oil based paving paint. Sand the hull smooth then apply three coats, no primer or undercoat. Preferably with a spray gun. Second choice roller and tip off with a brush or just brush if you have to. Preparation is everything!
Steer clear of non oil based paint. Bunnings stock it.

Would mixing the final coat with varnish make the finnish glossier?

Most varnish is not UV resistant. Best bet is to stick with what ever the paint manufacturer has devised. Follow the directions on the tin.
