If someone who was 100kg gave me 5k to get a boat simply to hoon around on I would go and get a nethercott International Canoe. This will keep you smiling for a long time, it will take some practice at first to learn to sail it, but in a straight line it is simple enough.
I am around your size and I do currently sail a contender so I am a bit biased that way so it would definately be the second choice but the IC would be a first choice for the hoon factor!

Contender can be fun, singlehanded with trap, older boats can be had cheap.

Jez - perhaps you should sail a canoe before you go making those sorts of claims.

Oz - IC's are fast, but at the same time they're a boat for people who are very on top of their boat handling techniques. They're not easy, but when you get your head around how to sail them, they're quite rewarding. Also, 100kg's is getting towards the heavy side of IC sailing; I've seen big boys snap planks before and it's not pretty! Also, a good development hull (post-2006) IC tends to be more expensive than some people on here think. Older Nethercotts can range from about $1500 to $7000 and they are quite varied in condition and pedegree.

For you, I'd go looking into the senior monos around the place such as Contenders or Finns (word of warning: you must have a serious masochistic streak to you and simply enjoy pain for pain's sake to sail a Finn :P). Both can be had fairly cheaply 2nd hand. I'd aim at finding an old Contender for blasting purposes - saw a dinghy sports hull (circa 1994) not long ago asking $1500. Can't really go too far wrong there.

Alternatively if you are into cats and want a singlehander... try and find an old A class perhaps? Around the $5k range you should be able to find an AusCat Mk3 in OK nick, don't go looking for anything older than AUS 650ish, before that most boats were ply. Good fleets of A's in Vic at McCrae, Merricks and Port Melbourne. Inland lakes - well, they used to be built in Bendigo if that helps.

Vic doesn't have much of a NACRA following so 16sq is out of the question... and I would also say Mosquito but 100 kegs is a bit much for a cat rigged one.

Otherwise, have you considered crewing? You sound like you'd find a very happy home on the pointy end of a Sharpie or FD??

This is the very first Formula 15! I now own number 08.

Easy to sail and would suit your weight. A sabre would be a bit small for you I'm thinking... and underpowered.

Sorry no...the Formula 15 is not a single handed boat. It is however a really great boat to sail. In comparision to the 12, 14 and 16 foot skiffs The formula 15 is much cheaper, the boats are one design, the boats don't break easily and they can be sailed in strong conditions. I sailed a 29er in Perth for the Nationals a couple of years ago and they are very slow in comparison. The guys that win are tiny young teenages as well.
