Excellent. Refurbish one and sell the other on. New they would be worth about 8 grand for both. Secondhand they go for $500-$2500 each. Use readily available bearings/bushes.

Both are very good. Both have similar gear ratios and leverage. The Aries is alloy and is generally the choice of long keelers. I would suggest checking them out and picking the best. The choice may come down to which is easier to mount on your vessel.

Some research on this forum maybe.

cruisenews.net

I'm Ramona there as well. Both Aries and Fleming's get a good coverage.

Sheeting position on Mizzen boom would have to be moved forward. Most blades are 800 x 200cm so if the gear is installed like in the bottom photo should be fine. As the wind freshens the blade can be raked further aft.

I do like that boats boarding ladders I usually mount the boat from the stern while on the swing mooring with a wind vane hanging off the stern might have issues or damage it in rough weather from the dingy
I could use the pipe bender at work to make those ladders and extend the stern rails a little

Thinking of doing the same thing HG02, means I can go for a swim without putting the dinghy in.

I can climb aboard via the windvane. The oar blade pivot point is the lower foot position.

below is a couple of photos of my Fleming setup on a long keeled canoe stern tiller steered sloop. took bit of work to get right - including adding additional struts to the fleming 3-point connection - now 5 points and rock solid. ladder on the side of the mount is handy for access.

I have a plastimo navik off my last 31' boat for spares or repair if someone wants to offer me a carton of coopers...
it worked beautifully, but i replaced it with this second hand flemming (from tassie) as they are a bit more robust. it has now sailed a few miles - all it needs is a replacement tillerpilot for motoring and I will be all set.

Nice. Probably could have got away with one SS step on the side of the rudder about the water line so get back onboard.
