As I had to cancel my trip to Gillies, I can’t comment on the regatta, but it would seem obvious to me that if the wind gods haven’t turned up, somebody has to stand up and call the regatta off. If those people happen to live close by to the venue and choose to go home rather than Land sit, so be it. Many moons ago the nationals where held every two years and it alternated between WA and SA. This seemed to work well until the wheels fell off the Adelaide club. I see no reason why this arrangement can’t continue to work. As there now appears to be a huge resurgence in interest in the sport, why can’t the other states hold a national meeting? Provided that their sailing area is bigger than a car park. Those that have been to Perth and sailed our lake will agree, we have the best surface to race on, as it provides all types of scenarios within a race. In the past when our club was in its prime, we had approx 30 Blowies racing between the Class 5 races, and it worked well. At the end of the day, a Blowie is a Land yacht and all that sail them should be included in the running of this sport. I.e. ALSA. I will get off my soapbox know. Cheers

Some very good points there BTR,as you say until ALSA gets back to those days with the correct people driving it we are along way from resurection,i believe there is a lot of work going on behind the scenes to remedy the situation.People will travel interstate for National events as long as there is time to plan.

Thats good news port, but I suspect its going to take some time. Things will sort themselves out in due course I'm sure, it just cant happen overnight.

Really like your new avatar there Bazl. I would also really like to see some detailed photos of your yacht in the photos section. Where did you get those fancy wheels?

EDIT:- Sorry Bazl, I think I am referring to the sexy wheels on AUS230.

well said Kim. the sooner people realise landyachts are wheeled vehicles with sails propelled by natures own wind the better off we might all be.

I was hopping not to coment on Gillies as I had not wished to stir the pot. But BTR the event was not cancelled because of the lack of wind but on personality clashes. As a competor at Gillies I was and am prety upset by the unprofecional antics of ALSA and before I travel to an event under there banner again there would have to be a complete change in there direction.
Note:
Recognise all wind powered yachts
Do not cancel events before they are completed.
Use current rules and control the meeting.

I would like this sport to grow as it has many fine people from all walks of life racing in all classes of land yachts, Because of this I think with a little give and take we will overcome our present problems.
Sorry for the winge but you had to be at Gillies to understand why some of us are very disapointed.
Cheers

We as Blokarters would like to be included in future ALSA events but after the bungled attempt at Lake Gilles would need some pretty good promises to return, considering it was a national event the turn out was pathetic all round with Blokart on board at these events we could swell the numbers to around the 100 mark perhaps.

This certainly was the case at the 2006 PACRIM. Whilst this event was organised by a small committee over the preceding 12 months if was well attended by land sailing pilots. Half of these were blokarts. I felt they added colour and excitement to the event. It was still a pity that there were two separate pilot briefings and not a complete integration of all the yacht classes. Maybe after all of the excitement of the National Titles all classes can be united for the benefit of land sailing in Australia.

That sexy black body must have distracted onlookers from the fact that BOTH of TRavis Bartletts DRAGONFLY yachts could catch, pass and outpoint AUS230. yet no-one was game to get in them
