As I had to cancel my trip to Gillies, I can’t comment on the regatta, but it would seem obvious to me that if the wind gods haven’t turned up, somebody has to stand up and call the regatta off. If those people happen to live close by to the venue and choose to go home rather than Land sit, so be it. Many moons ago the nationals where held every two years and it alternated between WA and SA. This seemed to work well until the wheels fell off the Adelaide club. I see no reason why this arrangement can’t continue to work. As there now appears to be a huge resurgence in interest in the sport, why can’t the other states hold a national meeting? Provided that their sailing area is bigger than a car park. Those that have been to Perth and sailed our lake will agree, we have the best surface to race on, as it provides all types of scenarios within a race. In the past when our club was in its prime, we had approx 30 Blowies racing between the Class 5 races, and it worked well. At the end of the day, a Blowie is a Land yacht and all that sail them should be included in the running of this sport. I.e. ALSA. I will get off my soapbox know. Cheers
