The reason they have rear steering iceyachts isthat when it all goes wrong you dont have far to fall out of the yacht! ( Im not kidding)
Why are rear steering landyachts not common is the same as for cars, ca you imagine drivng down the freeway in your forklift in rush hour!.
Every person who has built a rear steerer has then gone off and built a sensible, stable, fast front steerer

gidday, for the tecks,
take one disused boat trailer, cut and shut to required dimensions
when dog departs take sleeping frame, adjust with hacksaw and weld
remove lawnmower handle from dead victa, cut and tuck, control/roll bar
steering courtesy of X wifes pranged mitsubishi Galant shackle pin
add mast holding bracket and ply floor rig and go.
This smallish rig can double as presentation platform at protest rallys adorned with political message, as we older folk do like to enter into. Giving back to the environment etc.

Mate you gotta stop posting pictures till at least after easter! Its complete torture to me cos Ive made a promise to myself not to start any new yachts until I finish Lindas sails( 3 1/2 to go ) and a couple of sails for SN.
Ive got the sketches for the new CL5 and the version 2 of the mini magic, plus the aussie whike. Then you start giving me all these ideas!!!!!!!!
I do lov the cut and shunt tho , well done

I do like the dual axle setup... this will smooth out many a bump and pot hole.
This type of axle is used on movie camera crane units and works well.
I once had a laser yacht trailer that had half a car leaf spring reversed for the suspension. Its so simple and would work well on your unit if you needed it.

Heres a little rear end suspension that i worked out, works extremely well. went to rubbish dump re-cycling, got hold of two little kids bikes the same, cut them up and used the rear as shown and the front forks as you will see later Quite successful, but no brakes although i did use a couple of bike calipers, not very good that was the first build on bike tires, worked but i wasn't happy with it it did manage a couple o thousand k's until I got my hands onto update money after a nasty divorce.

This is the front end, no suspension, just welded forks to a king pin structure, steers from the rear by golf stick steering bar , Push right from vertical , turns right , left for left works a treat, untill the upgrade to motor cycle wheely, rear ones with small drum brake. Sorta effective but dont really religh on them ,better to keep machine under wery tight control, lest me perish downhill

Last photo till new chassis mods are finished. this one is built by the pros to my design, about 6'6"length and a meter wide. a little over budget, I thought $6-800, wrong! add about $2.000 to that . It basically worked a treat with all my gear around 500kg all up, but it still needed "better" wheels/undercarriage So am grafting my version of the 6wd undercarriage which will have in effect six wheel suspension with a two wheel disk brake setup running on the middle wheels The front axle pivots in the center about 200mm travel with rubber limit travel blocks on the outside chassis rails. all pivot points will be grease nippled, love to play grease monkey. I am having it narrowed by 250mm to 750wide so as i don't carry so much luxury junk. just the bare facts In my dotage its not the journey but how one travels , cheers for now

J Murry if what you are describing is what i think it is it would not work. As most of the weight is at the back this would you'd think be spread evenly over both rear wheels, however wind pressure would put greater weight to downwind side, making it harder to turn. This problem would be compounded when, as is inevitable, you lift a wheel. All the wieght on one wheel and even superman would be struggling to turn.

But TP1 , he doest sail on it , he walks along behind. the sailing rig is there to haul the load that he would normally push. PS do you still have that GPS print out from your big day in ya mini?
