Usually those Flanged Bearings are of poor quality as they don't have to run at High Speed. I have been told that they are designed to allow them to be flushed of Concrete and sand etc, I know the Chinese ones Crap Out really quickly.

The Bearings are easily replaced with High quality Sealed Bearings that have been designed to take a degree of side thrust but must be fitted the right way around.
Look inside the Axle Cavity with the bearings removed (Easily Tapped from the Rim. The Bearing Seat should be recessed into the cavity stepping out to the Bearing Seat. I most certainly hope so. Chinese Wheels rely totally on the Bearing Flange to control their movement where as Fallshaw (I believe) are recessed to take a better quality Bearing, however one should use a Spacer on the Axle itself to stop over tightening from affecting the Plastic seat. The Spacer should be around.5mm longer than the distance between the distance between the Outer Race side faces. Now there Mud should be clearer than that. Short of that I can not make it clearer without Sketches.

I'll go into the local bearing shop with a few pics of what we are up to......may put them right off!!!
Will take my Mum's old Bernina sewing machine in tomorrow......the school's machine blew up....Will have to shorten the leech of two sails......don't think we will try to make them flatter at this stage. I'm thinking this rig would be best for reaching and a more powerful sail would be better suited to the slower speeds expected on our school oval as we move into wet winter conditions.
The troops are really keen to get to a big beach.......as am I. Will have to sort out any problems before that.
The Fallshaw wheel will lower the front of the machine.....pity as the rear steering pedals are pretty low to the ground already!
We are going to enclose the cockpit in coreflute.......will stop feet dragging underneath.....hopefully.

Seems like more traps for young players
Will run with them until we wear them out.......then we will buy some sealed high speed bearings.
Mounting dual forks for strength seems to me to be essential. If so, using 20mm pipe as an axle may not be feasable as we have to be able to tighten them up from both sides.

now this is getting interesting. can you please tap a bearing out and give us an OD measurement, and also the thickness of the inner race.
dont forget that fallshaw make industrial trolley wheels, so if you dont get the exact thing you wanted its because you didnt tell them exactly what you wanted,.
the bearings you needed were precision bearings, not deep groove.
if that bearing has an OD of 50mm it can be retrofitted with a 6004 or 6204 bearing together with a nylon bushing.
if the OD is smaller than 50mm then we have a new wheel, which may take a precision directly , and this is a good thing

no just one , do it carefully with a wooden dowel from the opposite side and the bearing will be fine. take a photo of the face of the bearing too please

Damn! I am impressed with your teaching methods. Good Ol' Common Sense /Nouse and Hands On. Great Stuff, it will stick with them for a Life Time.
I am still hunting for a site I stumbled on and then lost. It is a Bearing Sales place in the States that also could cut a Groove in the Outer Race to take a Retainer Clip, this would be lovely for replacing Cheap Barrow Bearings with High Quality Bearings.

Bearing diam. outside about 50.8 ish mm
Inside diam. 25
Plastic insert brings it down to 20mm
Bearing housing depth is about 13mm...width 50mm

ive never seen one of those inner spacers before neat. the dealer has done it all arse about[}:)]
so the wheel is a standard one.
ask the dealer about the nylon inserts that go into the rim to take a 6204 or 6004 bearing . the fallshaw part no will be something like 6204HOUSING or 6004HOUSING

my first time on the landyacht:)

quite a wide steering circle. having seen it moving , I would be inclined to shorten the yacht by as much as 500mm. possibly more maybe even 1000mm.
this will substantially reduce the fatal twist that the yacht will probably suffer once sails are fitted. the effect of the sails twisting the chassis will be significantly worse when sailing on "slow", high drag surfaces like the grass you are sailing on.
sudden turns like the lads seem to want to do will make it worse still.
something to think about[}:)] the front passenger could move back to that crossbar assembly too

I leave the rear mast step alone, but yes a schooner rig would be just right

Nice construction, the red nosed one looks like a Mig 15 russian fighter thats had it's wings cropped.

Well ......have'nt found a ladybird walker toy....so we have had to run with a garbage bin lid instead.....have not decided if it looks too stoopid or not!
We are nearly ready with Camikazi and have had to rebuild a fair bit of Rosie as well.
Big race is on Sunday....troops are excited about having clip in shoes..thanks to Doug for the pedals
