Geez Gizmo you have flattened me. I'll go back into my box with pencil and paper and nail the lid on from the inside.

These days there are very few 'New ideas' its more like 'Another idea' or a 'Different idea'..... the quad design IS interesting and does get the grey matter working.
I was waiting else to think along those lines as well....

Go For It.

Thanks for the encouragement Gizmo/Gibber. Unfortunately I have a habit of starting new things before finishing others and that gets me in trouble. The Quad would be able to carry a taller/larger high aspect sail, perhaps it will become part of the eventual development of the class. With the Worlds Minis coming up in a year I thought it necessary to either have the idea canned or condoned well before then. Night ride has been delayed for a while due to some impending medical considerations with the CO, evidently plenty of wind up there now too, have to wait and see.....W

Well I must be missing something but how does 4 wheels that fit the 5.6m rope rule offer any advantage ?
All I see is more drag

Hicko...The 2 side wheels are raised slightly so you will never get all 4 on the ground at the same time. So when the yacht is measured with the 5.6m rope there will only be 3 wheels in contact with the ground either to the left or the right.
The aim would be to sail the yacht on the 2 centre wheels with an upright rig and with the drag of just 2 wheels, the current design yachts upright have 3 wheels on the ground and to then lift a wheel puts the rig on a less efficient angle.
I suspect if done correctly there would be less wheel / tyre drag on this type of yacht compared to a conventional 3 wheel design, A bit like www.seabreeze.com.au/forums/Land-Yacht-Sailing/Construction/the-carrapaho/ but add some trainer wheels 'so to speak'

So the pilot would be stacking out to windward to keep it on two wheels ? Tricky

Paul was it built by a newbie? .... A very sweeping statement tho.
I've sailed some slug of 3 wheelers as well, and for that matter EVERY yacht that I have sailed (water & land) that has had 'green' in the sail color have been slugs as well. I have found yellow sails to be faster than red ones (unlike cars).
Maybe a well made 4 wheeler like described might be viable?

I thought the Mini 5.6 rules were created to be a beginner class to entice people into the sport and then people would then move onto Class5 as a 'Serious Race Class'
