It will be a good while before we are out on Pink Lake again.

so much for all the salt mining killing off the pink algae.
all it really needed was a real rain and some summer heat

The students that constructed these yachts were very chuffed, when I told them you had officially tested their craft "Test Pilot 1".

Got the 4 yachts I took to Norseman/Lake Lefroy, pressure cleaned, the axles recoated with "Never seize" wheels refitted, lubed up the steering then packed back into storage, ready for their next outing.

Still can't wipe the smile off my face. Still buzzing. We must do more of this winter sailing.

The good thing about sailing a new yacht is there is not any slack in any of the joints which makes for a solid feel and is easier to control. The yacht was a bit light on the front wheel but I think it wil enhance its control on your lake when it dries out, or on sand. If the rest of the yachts are of the same standard then WOW what a great fleet they will be!

It was an interesting comment you made about the flex in the rear of the spine on our yachts "TP1".

I could feel the movement after you bought it to my attention. The big mast and a 6.2m2 sail made it worse.

When I remembered, back at the College, we shoved a steel pipe into the mast step and pulled it sideways, while holding the wheels on the ground and we could then see the flex/distortion, right at the weld point, in the open end of this joint.

We will weld a "half-moon cap" over it to stop it happening. It will help keep the crud out too.

All my personal yachts have this cap, with the construction date stamped into it and then welded into it.

Thanks Wayne. Your not called Test Pilot for nuthin' eh?

Well it is going to take a good while and a lot of evaporation before Pink Lake is usable.

I had my yacht on display at our local "collectors fair" today.

I dropped by the lake on my way home for a sticky beak.

I couldn't walk out any further than where the photo was taken from, without getting covered in mud.
This is looking due west with the old salt ponds on the right.

Just got to be patient I guess.

Hey great to see you back on the forum.

Yeh, some times but not for many years, the Pink lake water reaches a salinity level greater than that of sea water, when the temperature is high enough and adequate light conditions are provided; the alga begins to accumulate the red pigment "beta carotene".
This was the best I have ever seen it, in the 48 years I've been round Esperance.

Not having much luck, as the rain we had new years eve has refilled the lake again.

Pretty proud of where I live. This is Middle Island just off the coast of Esperance.
My mate flew out last week to take photos for Red Bull to confirm the colour of Lake Hillier, before they bought their chopper down.
