I thought about which one to go for and decided that being a 'Design Competition' it didn't matter. I personally like the design on Gizmo's better as you get lifted up without the seat pitching forward and the masses are more evenly spread on both sides of the vehicle. I like the idea of the cockpit not pitching down most for some reason.

it may work but would require a lot wind to lift the pod as well as a pilot ,and may need a very stong mast.anyway my point was it is on the floor in the flesh and as turnah said his dad is no good with computers etc,but has built it to prove the point the other one is only a paper plan and many ideas on paper only stay on paper

I agree with both of your points, and appreciate the actual design, work and expence that has gone into turnah's Dad's landyacht. If it were a "vote for your favourite landyacht" thread i'd choose it but I like Gizmo's sidecar design better, irrespective of whether its on paper or not. Due to the competition scope I tried to not bias my decision by looking at only the design perspective of the submissions. I hope everyones different.

I actually cant see why people would wish to build a one direction yacht, unless you have access to very constant winds and a good surface that would suit it.
My personal choice would be the "Quad" Landyacht, I think it would be great to sail a yacht where you didnt need to worry to much about tipping over... a bit like a trimaran.
If you wanted to build a yacht to do a speed record, the chassis aerodynamics would be so important.
Tube struts cause so much wind drag ... try placing your arm out a car window at 80kmh. and then think of the drag on all of the tubing?

I am going to put up another competition but if others wanted to continue the subject of an Asymmetrical landyacht please do so.

For an 'everyday' yacht I'd see no point. For an ultimate speed machine I guess the design provides some nice characteristics.

Off topic for a little bit, but what about a two seater where the pilots are placed in pods/seats out near the two rear wheels? It wouldn't give a performance advantage (vs a conventional two seater) but I can only imagine the thrill of being lifted in that position!

I vote for the Murray Turner model too .Saw the finished product out at the lake on the long weekend and the paint job was great. lots of great features and details. all this in a yacht that didnt work, but who cares, its the trying that counts.
All votes in by sunday night please.
cheers Paul

Murray told me that it would keep wanting to o its own thing and would start to hop the front wheel at speed.
they tried a couple of different rigs ,all with the same effect. the windsurfer rig they tried had a rather crude mast which bent when tensioned.
the yacht did have a really neat set up for altering the mast angles in 2 different axes. I would guess its back to the drop saw and welder for this design

Geez which Congo country did you guys count votes in?
When do anonymous persons get the vote?
My count is 2 for gzmo and 1 for urnah.
If you are going to count anonymous votes, I say stack the system
"Splitpin for PM" or President of ALSA

Now that would be interesting, but it probably would not suit some people because it would have to be done properly, promo girl would not be happy as i dont sail a landyacht so i would not qualify

I think this is probably the first time we have agreed on something splitpin. Your right I do like things to be done properly.

Whether a person sails or not does not matter to me...being open and accountable does.
