Thanks for that info, I was worried that I had to much weight on the front wheel. It is 14kg seated and fully sheeted which appears to be in the same ballpark as the European
yachts.

Cheers

Mine is 10kg on the front in sailing trim A long time ago I had some extra weight
mounted on the front but so many things have been changed since then I might try that again as an experiment
Sounds like another few KGs might be worth a try
I have another idea brewing as well
Wish I had a beach just across the road !

I feel better now knowing I'm not the only crazy fool happy to drive a 250 mile (400km) round trip to land yacht!

That sail that you run looks the same as mine is it a R&J. mine gets realty overpowered in strong winds. Had to bite my teeth and hold it as flat as possible in turns.

...that's interesting, yes R&J ( a bit worn out but serviceable ). Maybe I'll get a slightly flatter cut on the next sail? I was also thinking of a Square Top to concentrate the drag off the top corner. What loft's are good these days?

www.goachersails.co.uk/landyach.html seems to be the 'flavour of the month' currently. There's a waiting list and they ain't cheap.

Hey! Daryl,
Why don't you think about re-cutting the sail to the applied method that Landyacht uses. May Hap you will need a little advice from the forum.. Tape the whole thing together and get a sail maker to sew it for you.. Cheaper.. or you could hunt around for a Heavy Duty commercial machine and sew your own and maybe start building from scratch later down the Track..
Hey I did and I am a first time builder..

Have a look through these 15 pages and you may learn something from my Journy..

PS the Sail page was my effort at a speed sail.

I have sussed it! Well I say I? I got talking to the owner of the yacht previous to the chap that sold me the yacht about the handling issues on Christmas eve. And it seems that I was miss informed about the where to position the mast by the guy I bought the yacht from.

The way the yacht is constructed means it has a two possible mast sockets. I was told to use the forward one. This was wrong!

It also looks like the previous owner hacked off the a captive nut that was on the bottom of the mast to allow a bolt running through another captive nut welded to the forward mast socket, to adjust the mast rake.

I tried the mast in the rear mast socket and the yacht handled like a dream! I now just have to rebuild the mast rake system, as I am currently running with max rake due to no way of adjusting the mast forward.

But I'm very pleased not to be crapping myself going into every turning mark!

Had a great sail on Christmas Eve! I can concentrate on tuning now!

Thanks for all the advice.

Hope you all had a great Christmas and you have an even better New Years!
