Why people insist on self launching on busy beaches is a mystery to me.

Because half the nuff nuffs out there don't know how to hold or pick up a kite or just let go of it when they think your ready

Typical attitude, how will a nuff nuff get better if you don't show them???

Just think when you are teaching a kid to ride a bike do you just put your head in your hands and say for christ's sakes kid you just doing it all wrong, and tell them to try again or do you show them the error they made and how to improve it???

2 mins of your time thats all it takes, thats less than the time it takes you to spiel all the crap about how big you boosted and how fast you went to your mates after your session

I don't mind launching other people, but unless i know them or know they are competent i prefer to self launch, its safer for me that way & when you do know how to self launch it can be done even on busy beaches when done correctly

Edit*** And how can you compare a kid riding a bike vs a situation where you can be injured because someone lets go of your kite when your not ready

Monkey see, monkey do.
If Mr. Just-had-a-lesson-with-new-Cabrinha-gear see's you self launching on a busy beach then they'll copy what they see.

If there's another kiter around then ask them for a launch. If your worried about them letting go of your kite, then remind them to wait for the thumbs up before letting go.
Come on Juggler, lead by example.

I was not comparing or insinuating that it is even closely related.
merely saying that if you do not show people the error of their ways and simply avoid them then how will they ever learn???
plus mate "nuff nuff" "Numbtie" "newbie" "kook" these are all very derogatory terms mate and it's this kind of stuff that will stop the beginners in this sport coming to others for help.
We were all there once, and we all have to drop the bloody hell another learner mentality.

Funny thing is that with every thing that goes on the only thing heard was self launching, there are a lot of other practices going on that need to be looked at.
people who are so called beginners teaching their Girlfriend and mates how to crash their new 12m kite on a crowded beach.

There really is no need to fly a big LEI on the beach fully clothed, but people are doing it.
Also kids unleashed practicing handle passes.
not needed.

Really? I don't think i've ever seen, met or heard of a rider in Vic that practices any unhooked moves without a leash.
Sure, leashes disconnect once in a while... it's happened to most of us, but riding without a leash permanently?

Just something i noticed whilst i was on the beach over the weekend, some kids flying the kite no harness and unhooked obviously, with out a leash.

St Kilda is great, (for other people). On this I agree with Sleek1 (for a change). StKilda is a muppet magnet and without it the other spots would be saturated with tools.

If you like people to watch you do your tricks, St Kilda is the place for you. Bigger crowds who can get closer to the action.

I considerately kite at other spots so as to let other better smarter kiters enjoy their rightful limelight at St Kilda. Please keep making the most of it!

St.Kilda: 20 minutes from city. Has water and wind. AWESOME KITEBOARD SPOT if u live in the city. Its only crap if u stay right at the pier when it's busy (the 'kiddy pool'). i just go out into the ocean when its at capacity. Lots of space. Beautiful city skyline, limitless space down to port Melbourne. I don't understand St.kilda haters, quit ur whinging!
