The rope we have this year is top quality, if not the best one in the market. What you need to do after each weekend is to loosen the rope from the cleat before washing, so salt/sand doesnt get trapped inside and harden up. We also always pull the depower rope in at least 4-6 inches before launch just in case wind is more than anticipated, a practice for the student to utlise the depower system after the kite is in the air, and to make sure the depower system is working fine.
Same applies for the quick release, take it apart for washing and leave it open to dry. Ours pull open easy as - our students practise pulling the safety at least 2 times during land drill at each lesson, then on the water again.
I believe having depower above the bar or a conventional quick release are all personal preference and what you get used to. With full depower kites, having depower above the bar might at times be a little hard to reach.
Glad you love the Havocs, it is my all time favourite too, combined with the Recoil Comp, nothing will win me over. Just got my 16m in today, cant wait to try it out. Now when I go on a trip, I have 6 Havocs (6-16) to cover all winds. Well, almost!

Hey what do you LF/havoc flyers think of the depower system on the bar and lines? Is it just me or is it difficult to adjust on the fly? The cleat on the chicken loop seem to grab the depower rope and is very difficult to disengage when powered up. Also the quick release on the chicken loop sometimes jams too. I make a point of releasing it and giving it a flush regularly and sometimes it's quite sticky. I'm get a bit worried about it functioning smoothly in an emergency. I love the kite (I've got three of these kites now) but if I could choose I'd rather have the depower above the bar and a conventional quick release.
