I saw a guy do a tightarse, Go joe (an inflatable thingy that goes around your handle. He used a small strut, tied it in a knot around his handle and blew it up. Sure it looked like a big condom, but like condoms they work (well most of the time).. An instructors tip# When teaching someone to bodydrag, after they have got reasonably good, Id throw a board 10m upwind of them and make sure they are competent to get back to the board, before ever thinking about teaching them the waterstart. The IKO is a great lesson guide, but you can modify it slightly to make it more competency based for what a bodydrag is all about. Of course write your name and phone number on your board. It only costs you a carton to get it back, a pretty good investment on a $700-$1000 board.

yeah I saw them... not the flashiest thing to bring to the beach but I guess it works so why not really? not a bad idea as an instructor to throw the board up 10 meters best way to learn!

Board leashes are awesome.

Take for instance, this girl, she was so stoked she didn't lose her board!

So wear heel straps and whatever, and one foot will come out and this will be the outcome.

www.seabreeze.com.au/forums/Kitesurfing/General/accident-at-swannys/

Same thing that happened to a mate of mine, front roll to blind, his bach foot slipped out on landing and he snapped his hamstring off the bone. It required surgery and 6 months from any excercise, We learnt in the old school days, learn to kite tomorrow, dont push it too much today

Bought a new set of straps and pads the other day and they came with heel straps. Can't see how the heel straps can attach though.

There's not enough room to put the screw through them and the pad and into the board. Do I need longer screws?

Longer screws are the way to go, it makes it so much easier. If the heel straps are rubber, you'll want to put some plumbers tape around the thread as the screws may not do up very tightly and if you try and over-tighten, the rubber can easily split.

Just my 2 cents, beginners in all sports make the same mistake. "If I just change the gear in this special way then my problem will be solved and I will be able to do it better."

It's a waste of time. The only reason you are having any problems is your lack of experience. Get more experience and your problems will disappear. It will only take a few weeks of concerted effort. That is much more useful than messing around with heel straps and leashes and other pointless stuff.

BTW The Cabrinha backless bindings stay on your feet really well. There is no need to put straps on them. They work fine as they are.

I agree that learning to do without is the way to go. I can also see the benefit of spending more time with the board at your feet than spending most of your time body dragging when you are learning. Now, no responses please defending the merits of good body dragging skills, I'm not questioning them. Where I kite, the winds can be very hit and miss, so when learning, I wanted to spend as much time as possible on the board as it could be a while before I got another chance.

Note do dave...... turkeyboy will never stick, seriously (see how i spelt yours correctly, even the right number of fullstops!

x2 on the cab backless bindings ( i combined mine with the Liquid Force LUxury Foot Pads ) very very rarely does a foot come out.

@Shane86...that is one weird avatar pic... a little disturbing.

My bodydragging skills are deft getting better and bodydragging upwind is not really much of an issue anymore. Still bloody tiring sometimes but its a good way to learn. Also strap my straps tighter which of course I should have done ages ago!! Thanks for all the input. Now bring us some wind hey!!

Hi guys I never use a leash for the stated reasons, however I am seriously thinking about wearing one on Sunday for the L2L race.
sorry for hijacking!
Here are my thoughts open ocean and 100 kiters all heading in same direction. If collision occurs limited chance of body dragging to retrieve board without affecting other racers. Kite at 12 collect board from leash quickly race still on nobody put out of there way.
Does this sound reasonable.

To me that sounds reasonable. You are doing it with very good reason. Also it would reduce the danger of having a floating board in front of other kiters. Probably a reel leash to reduce danger of having it swoop back at you.
