If you are young, and have minor ligament issues, rather spend that $900 on a gym membership.
I almost completely tore my MCL 2 years ago when I was only 22. stairs hurt, jumping hurt, kneeling made me cry and didnt think of unhooking or kiteloops.
4 months gym and 100s of km on the bike and I had no pain at all and no stability issues.
Much better to get your bad knee back on par with good knee rather than buying a brace and neglecting exercise.
Of course do both if you can.
In my case age and a degenerative condition make the possibility of improvement via excercise impossible. I suspect many people will find themselves in this situation eventually.
I hope thats all you ever need, but so many knee injuries lead to degenerative conditions eventually, then a brace is really necessary so that a person can keep kiting.
Bike riding is good, so is walking, stretching, core strengthening, supplements, seems like aging is something none of us will escape, but along the way there are many things that can help us to enjoy life, why not use all of them?
