Good points andy. Localism only gets people's backs up. Remember you don't own the beach, even if you do pay taxes.

I visited Woodies in 2007. Met the locals, showed some respect, had a kite session. No problems.

If people keep talking up a beach them you're going to get blow ins, that's life. Keep the really good spots secret.

best way to avoid crowding spots is not pimping them in mags and with events and not ever mentioning them on the internet, pics /vids.

Put yourself in their shoes...Many of us leave our sunny shores to broaden our experiences overseas. Its something that everyone should do to change their perspective on things.

Same goes for our hobbies. As you get better you want to do them at the mecca of the sport.

As far as kiting goes we dont really need to go anywhere but go check out the moutains in North America, Europe or Japan - they are overun by aussies. Why do they go there? Because its among the best places in the world to hit the snow and Australia is pretty much crap.

Same goes in surfing, all the best breaks overseas are littered with aussies and we have some of the best here!

Compare Perth to Europe for kiting. Perth shizzles on the euro scene. I know if I was a euro I would want to come here too...and would! I would know my place but still want be treated with some respect.

Your lucky enough you only have to get mum or dad to drive you to woodies...Geez, they probably saved for half a year to come over, take that hell flight to get here...You would wanna make the most of it and just enjoy yourself.

Like said above they are generally a really easy going fun bunch with great personalities. As long as they treat the locations with respect & show the etiquette required, well all's good.

You simply have to accept this what comes with living at the one of the meccas of the sport - its going to get crowded.

Im sure when your old enough to leave home (or know better) you will want to venture overseas and expect the locals over there to treat you with some kind of respect. At least you will come back with some attitude adjustment.

Its time to burst your Perth bubble.

Anyways, havent you got some homework to do?

...and I'll quit philosophising

The ski slopes of Japan are completely overrun with aussies, yet I find the Japanese to be the most welcoming and friendly people I have ever met.

You can also be #$%%$ Euro tourist like myself, lived 14 years at Scarborough, spend more time at Brighton than most and still get the tourist stare because I have an accent

Mc Bride, go back to Scotland and to all others, lets share the Ocean peacefully.

ps: how did I miss out with the ability to boost awesome tricks and worse, my super hot scantily clad girlfriends.

...maybe if you understood what they are saying in Japanese (always with a big smile) it'd be different?

But it's the generalisation really isn't it? Winners and losers in all countries even *gasp* the sunburnt country, the land of sweeping plain.

I've been taken for the most amazing ski touring / boarding in the Alps with... you guessed it, Euros I'd met surfing 'my' break - don't miss out on some of the best friendships and experiences you may have just because you're narrow minded about protecting your [already famous] spot, Mc Bride.

Jean Louis even sent me off to the top of the Vallee Blanche with his cute girlfriend (yes, it is true Getfunky!) whilst he worked in the ski shop which gave me all my snowgear to use for free. I stayed in his loft with a view of the mountains thru the skylight!

It wouldn't matter whether they were "euros", "sepos" or even "aussies" the problem is just that these people are ****house at kiting and get on everyones nerves.
It's easy to discriminate against them by saying they come from another country there by effectively disassociating and distancing yourself from their complete lack of knowledge and skill.

woodies can accomodate heaps of riders if they just click on to the natural rhythm of the spot.. ie ud notice that everyone rides in a line up almost and there is space all the way down the spit. only thing that gets anoying is people that break that rhythm and just crash and get in the way, easy fix is just to point out the way things work its not hard. hell half the locals at woodies were euros last season and they were wicked to ride with.
safety bay works the same, dont crowd into the pond, come in do ur trick tack out n give it some room thats just how it works.

ps i heard u cant kite at safety bay anymore anyway so i wouldnt bother going down there and crowding up the pond

Not if they also have their own secret spots.

4 days in North Montana, I saw maybe 30 other people, mostly skiers, on the slopes and few of them were hitting the fresh powder.

I've only been to Woodies twice, back in Jan 2005, but it was pretty empty at the time. How many kiters do you get out at a time now?

guess what? i'm a "euro" and i've been kiting at woodies for 4 years now.

It gets crowded sometimes, but when you're good enough you can just get ou a bit further than everyone else and you'll find you'll have all the room in the world just for you, and with a bit of luck a shark will see you, eat you and there will be one less kiter crowding the beach.

now go back to school
