Our response to 'The Shark Problem' is to indiscriminately kill a bunch of big sharks that were in the area at the time of an attack and ( at least in NSW and QLD) to set up a more permanent 'shark control' program, which indiscriminately entangles anything larger than about 300mm. There is little evidence that either of these approaches reduces the risk of sharky chomping on Joe Public.

My point was to demonstrate how absurd our response to 'The Shark Problem' is by comparing it to 'The Dog Problem'.
Both cause a similar amount of fatalities in Australia.
If we're unable to identify which dog was responsible for a mauling, should we drive around shooting any Canine in the area that looks a bit bitey?
Should we erect traps to control dog numbers that indiscriminately kill other species of large mammals?

That's it from me, we've only got one ocean folks, look after it.
