Agreed entirely, things that can be done on a kite only, and yet the focus of most competitions are on kiters copying skaters and wake boarders.

Did they take the arial stuff to where it could go or was it stopped short due to the movement to the wakestyle...

and again not knocking the highly skilled, technical and brave wakestyle riders.

Just being politically correct plummet, not trying to to start another thread war. What the hell...I agree and have always agreed with this and have made comments over the past few years and been noticeably slammed.

How the hell did wake-style hi-jack this sport when considering the competitive arena. Some might say it was just natural evolution, I mean there is no denying the skill and bravery needed to pull of those high powered moves,,, surely you cannot deny this...

But i got into kiting to boost and ride waves...but each to their own I suppose.

indeed i don't deny the wakestyle skill involved. to be brutally honest its pretty boring to watch. 90% of the moves all look the same and its all done low and fast. its much more stectacular to watch someone boost big. if they throw dowm some moves then good on them.

mind you if i was not endowed with a plethora of waves at my local and only had flat water then i may see the need to do something different. Luckily for me every session is a wave session so i don't need to look to wake style to progress.

Lastly. If someone wants to wake style. good on them. go for it. Its not my cup of tea

But i will be pleased when the sponsered riders move on from wake style. I'm sick of eagerly looking at the latest vid from any kite company and all i see is low level wake styling. Bores me to tears.

At least i was entertained with Toby's teaser. I wish he would stop pointing his feet so much. Its not an olympic pommel horse event. its manly kiting!. Jut those man feet out proudly on awkward manly angles and i'll be happier.

It makes me feel funny, like when we used to climb the rope in gym class

here's another great idea; let's get all of the top asp surfers, put them on 14 foot wooden mals, and get them to compete in 2ft shore break- just like they used to in the 50s. much less technical, slower, and more accessible, and a step backwards. just like dangling...

hehehe... but what is next after wakestyle?. because it is a fad. in a few years time you will be posting this same comment about wake style... saying something like. "can't beleive we wrecked out knees doing that low level wake style"

you know what i want to see.

speed kiting mixed with jumping.

I want to see a dude doing 80kph hit a kicker like evil knevil and jump 20 boats.

Do your wake style handle pass off the evil knevil ramp at 80 clicks and i'll give you the kudos you deserve!.

nothing beats just getting out in 25 to 30 knots and throwing some of the biggest jumps you have ever done! nothing compares

Dammit I ran outta thumbs waaay before the end of this thread.

Wakestyle is booooooring to watch to me. One trick , repeat repeat repeat. I don't care if this one was fully inverted and this one spun backwards while passing the bar between the legs.

I can't tell the difference between handle pass tricks, but more to the point I don't want to because really it's all just the same old handle pass dressed up different ways.

Obviously a lot of wannbe wake boarders and wannabe surfers lurk on this site .......

Its fine if you want to mimmick other sports ( 90% of you look like kooks doing it ) but go ahead its still fun.

But in the mean time appreciate the skills it does require to pull off some of the old school tricks because most of you wouldnt even get close to doing half of them and many of these triks were invented well before you homos had depower and were done on two line kites.

A bit more respect for the forefathers of kiting and the moves they INVENTED NOT COPIED

The majority of tricks Toby does are not possible with the average kite. You need to be able to lock the bar down as he does with the micro loop.
So if you're thinking of boosting and letting go with both hands for the behind board pass it'll be all over very quickly!.

Any bar that comes with an active stopper ball - what I call cruise control - that little wedgy thingy that slides up & down your trim ropes above your bar (you would be surprised how many dont know what its for) can do any of the hands-off stuff. Just set your wedge as close to the bar as possible. Keeps your kite well powered through tricks.
Good way for newbies to get something like the feel of what kiting was like before depower came along .
