Can anyone actually report the feeling of being hit by a kite????
The leading edge is still just an inflated blader and although i am convinced that it could give you a decent whack, i am not even sure that this could really hurt someone.
Don't ask me to volonteer, just wondering if anyone experienced it.

As for the lines i have seen many incidents with kites crossed up and people going down in a tangle mess but never seen anyone hurt other than getting dragged into stationary objects.
Maybe if your kite goes down, you wrap the lines around your hand to pull it back and it relaunches, it could get ugly, but side swept by the lines???

hmmm rubbish. The sport is in good hands! Lets just pull every man, boat, jetski, paddle board off the water and leave it to the sharks and tourists at Cottesloe. Our Life Savers do a fantastic job of looking after the bathers. I witnessned a kiter carving it up on the outside of the Cottesloe beach fully in control and staying away from bathers but if you put 20 kiters in there we may have a problem.

From what I here The West is a bull**** rag anyway!

The West is just a 'shock jock' style newspaper which loves scare mongering.

Someone must of mentioned the kiters being there and that just raked the muck.

You're in more danger from the bogans in the car park at Scabs anyway.

Sebol asks...."Can anyone actually report the feeling of being hit by a kite????"

There is a guy down at Safety Bay who knows what it feels like to get hit by a kite board.

6 broken ribs and a punctured lung. Unconscious in deep water -very few people survive that.

So obviously kiting is not dangerous and kiters have nothing to worry about!

when i was in queensland 2 years ago there was a lady hit by a kite surfer on the beach. it snapped her neck and killed her instenly. another lady was hit in melbourne and smashed he hip to bits. i wasnt there for any of them but i read about them in the paper. i completly disagree with all the hype the paper has made up but i think we still have to aware how dangerous our kites are. they may be inflatable but they are inflated hard and have an amazing amount of power behind them. specially if it hits a kid or elderly...

I looked at the coroners court and there is no investigations on this incident. That would definitley fall under reportable deaths 'The death was violent or unnatural, such as accidents, falls, suicides or drug overdoses"

Would be interested to find direct and confirmed references to fatalities of kite surfers or 3 parties

ive been kiting 4 years and never heard that story.
getting hit hurts a fair bit, much more violent than anything ive ever experienced in 6 seasons of rugby, im lucky i got hit square in the middle and missed the lines. the lines would easily cause lacerations to the bone.

The other day while setting up my kite someone behind me lost control, their kite came down just infront of me and the lines scraped down my back.
Gave me a nasty graze down the left side of my back and bled a little.
Decided not to go out (had just finished setting up ) but it didn't hurt too much.
Obviously it could be alot worse though.

I had a guy dip his kite down straight in front of me as I was scorching past (thought he had seen me). I hit the lines before I had time to bail and they knocked me off the board. It took skin off my arms, the side of my face near my eye and nearly took my ear off.....I was lucky, lines could do serious damage!

What cracks me up most about this article is; in the headline she makes out the kiters are to blame, but "Mr Bell and Mr Peck said swimmers had to respect other beach users."

Never let the truth spoil a good headline

Gotta admit it is almost a clever line - just a shame its got stuff all to do with the facts being reported. - DER !!! A story without a story.

Vocal minority much?

I smell a lynching? [}:)]

Sorry if that offended you man diddent mean it to come accross that way, And I have no Idea what lynching is, but I get the feeling you dont like me questioning the complaints at mullaloo beach, and I take it you have hardly any experiance with this particular beach since you live in NSW so I cant see why you dont like me getting a bit worked up about possible restrictions beiing put in at my local and favorite ride spot for reasons that are not evident to me? Im sure if your closest and favorite ride spot was beiing talked about like this you would get abit worked up aswell, just guessing.

not sure about this one in 5 years of reading this forum you get to know the forum's safety police, and they thrive (and then some) on something like this and everyone would have heard about it

not that there's anything wrong with a bit of safety

I was told that story about year or so ago, someone got killed sim to what was described... and over eastern states don’t know if it was QLD...didn’t get it from a forum.. Was on the beach by a kite surfer (think it was a terourist)... who knows if its true... seems odd to come up again though........ Many kiters don’t post on forums....so not hearing it on here doesn’t mean it didn’t happen!

Bet it would hurt getting hit by a leading edge though... i almost got the chop couple weeks back when one landed on the beach 1 meter from me... popped its leading edge from the force...

sorry paynee, not saying it's absolutely didn't happen, but like anyone involved in some sort of watersport, you tend to hear all the controversial local stories. I think the only severe one i can remeber was the bloke drowning off currumbin alley rock while kiting, or more recently the bloke windsurfing drowning at caloundra

Haha no, mate, nothing against you. I'm saying that what you said shows that infact there are only a few people making a big problem... I was supporting your statement.
