for me the 04 11m fuel is the most exciting kite i have owned or flown with no depower on the bar and only a couple of inches on the cleat you didnt need a wettie in winter, the adrenalin kept you warm.
Nowdays i ride best NXG in 9m and 12m which for me are the best as far as the sle kites go but it would be nice to return to the old days when a busy day was 6 kites on the water because almost everyone was scared of the kites

For freestyle/wakestyle; torn between 2009 Torch, 2010 Torch and 2010 Vegas. All three kites are wicked in their own way.. if compared to cars the 09 torch is a F1, 2010 torch; a muscle car, 2010 Vegas; BMW M5, heaps of agro, but in an elegant way.
For waves; RRD Religion without a doubt, never been on a more stable kite (in gusts and when riding towards it) while still being really fast and responsive.

Only thing I didn't like was pumping up 7 seperate struts (incl tips) then LE. Small price to pay for a sweet kite though.

do you have to pump up tips on 05? are you sure yours is 05....anyone?? my 9m has only 5 and the tips are included with leading edge, but had the ol' square corners.

Yep my 05 had seperate pump up tips. I believe that is an 06 you have there Col. I briefly had an 06 Yarga Pro 11m which had the tips you describe. Yarga pro had some nice features but was a very differant kite and not what I was after. Over-engineered and sacrificing relaunch - never good in my book.

The Nemesis looks like an interesting kite, although being a bit pricey. But I can't really imagine that you gain a lot with this TwisterTech leading edge.. I can see that it makes a turn initiate faster, but when it has to "twist back" on the way up in a kiteloop, I would expect a loss in turning speed. So what you gain at the start of a turn you are gonna lose at the end.
I read some reviews that confirmed this, but have not flown the Nemesis myself.
How are they for boosting big and doing kiteloops?

yer torches are sweet.. if your into pull up monkeybar style kiting... vegas hangs well with that class

old waroos.. i had a 9 06 and 13 07 ... i kicked my self in the nuts every day i rode thinking what a mistake selling my 04 fuel was!

hands down best kites ive ever flown

04 - 05 fuels, 06 rhinos, and my all time favourite 08 Hifi comp... its weird how the earlier gen kites were always the better ones minus quality issues...

can say that for vegas and torch too...

if most people reckon the older kites were better then whats wrong with the new kites?

Are kite companies taking a step backwards and making kites to technical when all they really need are the old basic designs.

its as if the more performance kites became dependant on their 5th lines for support the weirder their control became...

old kites also flared after popping giving it mint slack and they were nice and slow so super easy to park up n ride.

i just miss the old simplistic set ups, no BS, just adequate amount of depower, slow turning until you really throw some input into the bar and that 4 line C feel.

I made the ALIBI completely the opposite. Go the ALIBI

the alibi looked like it flew good at KS, didnt try it myself but it looked like it could fly good. but it's still nothing on the older kites..

i guess you can look at it more like if you were to go out for a joyride would you:

a) take ya old mans mustang for a thrash- raw, powerful etc.
or b) take ya mummies merc out for a afternoon cruise all refined and lady like...

hmmmmm what is more fun?

It would be nice being a dependent and having a choice of cars.
But hmmm
Mustang. That'll get bogged.
Merc that'll have no resale value once its scratched and full of sand.
Horses for course, I need a reliable 4x4 to drive where I go.

The 05 Matrix was a good medium aspect kite too. It had the most extreme coning you can really build into a versatile kite . While I was working on it in Sardegna I learnt Pete Roses. That was probably the biggest progression for me back then, so I love them lots today...
Between you and me the ALIBI is a far better kite with similar attributes. It has far better wind range and wont completely flog your arms and leave you in a state of chronic tendinitis.

dude my parents drive a soccer mum cruiser and a barina.. wish they were so i wouldnt be gettin rolled in uni fees!

but i was just using it as a comparison...

never got to try the matrix but i always wanted to.

to make a dead comparison between what i've owned for example:

i got a 2010 hifi comp now, frikin love it, its well refined, does exactly what i want it to when im unhooked and it's helped me progress, its smooth and responsive, good relaunch, loops are very powerful yet consistent and smooth accell. ample depower for hard crashes.

but i loved the 08 more just because it was raw, it handed ya arse to ya when u made mistakes in loops, it yanked ya at a rediculous speed downwind when you pulled the trigger from the water etc. it was just a very exciting kite to fly.

most of the newer kites are far superior in performance, comfort, depower bla bla all that crap that sells the thing to joe pub but they just not as exciting to fly i find.

12m X2, still the only one for me out of a heap of kites that really stays in mind as a great kite in its day.

I agree less depower and more simple is more fun

My best kite that I have flown is my 7m NEW OS kite.

The open C shaped kites tend to tickle my fancy, such as the RPM's, the Religions and the Vapours look good to me too.

Now I met a guy who normally flies Best Waroo's (as far as I can recall), his kites were in for repairs and he borrowed a NEW Alibi (I have not flown yet) and he hated it (I think flying style counts alot, maybe he choked it or something)

I have never flown a Best kite (and have no desire to either for some reason) but I would think it would fly similar to most bow style kites, makes me think that there are still two main camps when it comes to types of kites - The BOWS and the C'ish kites (not many true C's about).

Why does the ark make so much difference? The C'ish kites just seem so much more agile to me and tend to float alot better than the 'BOWS', is it because of the centre of gravity?

A bit long winded!

Cheers
Rich
