what you blokes also don't realise yet, is that these french blokes will go home at the end of the season and tell their mates how they raped your local spot and you guys did F all about it and they pretty much did what they liked.

Next season, 8 more french short-tackers, the following season 30 more will show up. why wouldn't they all come? wind every day, butter smooth water and a bunch of pussies tip toeing around them. watch it happen.

Mate, this sounds like bogans on Bali.

Thumb me if you like, but just think what you said here.

Mate, what is your point?

My point is that when people hear of a good thing they get onto it, and it is probable that these guy's behaviour will be replicated by their mates back home.
Confused as to your reference re Bali ....., I haven't kited in Bali, but in the surf the Balo's don't let tourists get away with dropping in on em, I've seen one or two brazilians etc dealt with when necessary in my time travelling there which is a good thing. The Balo surfers aren't afraid to stick up for themselves and good on em, keeps everything in check doesn't it?

So, what was your point????

Tend to agree. If someone goes home and tells his mate he got smacked for short tacking someone may actually realise they have to have an element of respect for local rules (formal or informal) when the come here. He's been spoken to. If he chooses to ignore local rules, he deserves everything he gets. Paying for flights and accommodation does not entitle you to special treatment. The reality is they are tourists. They do not live here, they do not pay tax here and they are subject to local hospitality only as long as they behave. If they want to treat people with contempt and a lack of respect, the locals are likely to do the same. Walk into a pub and spit in someone's face, you'll get smacked.

It's called localism and it comes from being repeatedly screwed by some knob from somewhere that has even more severe localism than your patch. If you live near this spot it's your duty to give them a hard time. They expect it.

So if I see 5 or so guys setting up old warroos at the edge of the pond I know its time to get out and get my deck chair, phone and popcorn. Kite wars, imagine the carnage and imagine the number of YouTube hits. Now that would be something to see. On a more realistic note ( sorry I got carried away with how awesome that would be),

Yes you need to act as a collective for sure and it does need some coordination. This may prevent physical violence which lets face it is not what anyone wants. Like a one night stand with your sisters best friend, good at the time but after....

Damn I do like the idea of an armada of kamikaze kites from 2006 just crashing through the line up. Might add another aspect to the sport, smash em up kite sessions. Ooh yeh.

But maybe the pond has not critical mass and cannot be fixed, don't know.

Localism does achieve what it sets out to do. There are surf beaches around Aus where nobody would dare snake or drop in on anyone, and there are places like Bondi where there is no real localism anymore and people do what ever the hell they like (also it's a very popular beginners beach). Most of this from word of mouth.
But it sucks when the pendulum swings too far, and suddenly locals decide they have the right to then ignore the rules when it comes to visitors. I've been at beaches on road trips where I have been ID'd as a tourist (kinda obvious) in the lineup, and you get treated like absolute **.
