The reason people like Carbine and Toby are copping it in this thread is because they don't want to save people that put themselves in situations that they know they may face and not be able to deal with. [despite doing it many times for people they dont know over the past seasons]
They say this because they are not elitists but the more experienced kiters that will inevitably end up risking their own gear to rescue kites/boards of those who they request don't come to Woodies until they are of the standard required to use a dangerous beach like Woodies flat side without risk of doing something that could be prevented with more experience. Couple this with the fact that they had to walk the length of a better beach to get to the flat side it is a very frustrating issue.

now now Spacemonkey, i was on your side just reminding you guys to keep it friendly and chilled...

why are you so grumpy? i'm sure you've had more good sessions at woodies 3 than bad...?

i first kited woodies 3 in 2003 were you there then? i have been there every yr since... never needed a rescue! Or your help, maybe i've borrowed your pump maybe you borrowed mine???

but thanks for your kind offer

read my post it clearly says; if you see someone kiting who you deem not good enough / potential hazard ask them to visit beach 1 or 2 NICELY if they come back to 3 and make a problem for the "Best/ Most influential riders crew" put little pin prick holes in their kite so they kept off the water, in return keeping you out of danger and keeping your session a wikd one!! *there it is in different words*

can't wait to meet you too, mid Nov

just think..what would you expect of others if you got in the situation where you could not get back in or if you had broken a line and were slowly drifting out to sea??

I am sure you would all appreciate someone coming to help you out... You may not expect help but i'm sure in the back of your mind you would be hoping that someone will come and give you a hand..without people like havox a lot of people owuld have found themselves in a little bit of trouble by now...I say good job to havox and we need more people in the sport like him !

Woodies Beach 3 is offshore! If you can't self rescue/stay upwind competently it's a risky spot.

(Maybe we should tell Jeremy that?)

End of thread.

PS Laurie, what happend to the photo of the shark caught at woodies, it's not in the photos section any more?

Now I get it!
Protect your local turf by telling everyone how dangerous it is! Been done before.
Bet the local Pinna boys wish they had got onto this a few yrs ago!

I would have thought an ""expert" with a broken line or deflated bladder almost as vulnerable as nube at floating off into the yonder-so perhaps no one should kite there.

A bitch-thread like this one only illustrates how few butter-smooth flatwater spots there are in oceanwaters off Perth.
Woodman Point and Safety Bay would be the only two I'd guess.
So what's the maximum number of kiters that's workable at Woodies ?
Six maybe ?
Probably.

Take a ticket and wait, flatwater bandits.
lol.

Woodies is the perfect example of a kitebeach in need of rescue-on-tap.
This is where WAKSA comes in.
The kitesurfing version of the iconic surflifesaver.
This is how WAKSA could be more pro-active in beach safety.
Picture this:
WAKSA volunteers manning the tower at Woodies.
Saturday and Sunday only.
Ride between the flags.
Rubber-ducky at the ready.
lol.

(The local riders are going to love this).
lol.

Mabe the state government could spend $20,000,000 on building an artificial kitesurf reef/groyne. The could waste $19 mil at UWA playing around with paddling pools and then just extend floreat groyne about 1km. We already have towers down there for waveslave and his WAKSA rangers

It would seem i feel for tobes and carbine's plight. personally I wouldn't venture out at woodies a) because i don't consider myself elite enough to need the superb crowded woodies conditions (which i can get at my local uncrowded spots anyway) b)i just don't go out where i would need rescuing (i don't trust my vintage gear)
HOWEVER.... it seems most people would red thumbs down the "elitists" and insist on their rights to be there, so i will have to reconsider my values to agree with common man. While i also agree with their rights to be at woodies, i think they have the right to get blown out to sea. But mostly i agree with Ben and dirty harry. The act of helping each other and rewading with beer should be encouraged. Those that don't supply beer for rescues should be punished.
end of rant.
