Actually I would say yes, less debis risk but probably same risk of getting nasty infections from the untreated sewage in the water.

As I said in another thread recently "don't do the crime if you won't do the time"

You guys will bitch at whatever you can. Rhys Simply put a post up to let everyone know it's not a good idea to kite at Sandgate or Brighton for a few days but it wasnt law. You can do what you want. I kited the last 3 days but **** shore it wasnt at either of those two beaches and that was my choice. Grow up and find something else to whinge about.

I went down to the beach on Thursday and to my amazement kiters where out at both beach's, At the end of the day it was no more bad taste than the refugee jokes after the Xmas Island boat over xmas.
The difference was this has happened in our own back yard.

The young guys at Sandgate yesterday afternoon where looping straight over families standing on the walkway, crashing the kite twice into the water inches from trees and a couple of meters from bystanders."All in 1/2hr"
Then one pulled off a shallow water beach landing that nearly took the heads off another family.

I'm sure you all think the beach is yours and who the F&^k can tell you not to kite there, the issue is this is what kiting at Brighton and Sandgate has now been associated with during a great disaster is not one that I signed up for to promote with Brisbane Kite Kite.
Nobody remembers the guys that do the right thing just the d&*kheads.

Hard to promote our members as responsible and safe kiters when this type of thing occurs.

I spent today cleaning houses at Indooroopilly helping a mate and strangers that I have never met before, the wind will always be there, hopefully we will never see another disaster like this ever again.

Keep on kiting guys Your doing a cracking job of promoting the right image.

Be careful ** canning guys over this issue, people have lost family members and emotions are very raw ATM.

Thoughts and prayers with those lost.

Kiting seems to attract all the grumpy control freaks, show ponies and wet blankets.

Give it a rest.

If someone wants to kite, let them kite. It's their risk. They've paid their medicare levy.

If someone doesn't wanna kite, shut up and don't kite.

Why does everyone wanna be the boss of someone else?

If there is show ponies risking the safety of the public, say something to them at the beach, or let the authorities do it.

kite / don't kite I don't give a toss .Go somewhere else Brighton beach it closed for clean up ,there are heavy machines running round ,council workers trying to clean up ,locals / kids trying to clean up ,if your that desperate for a kite go, up or down the coast in the cleaner water and keep out of the way of the clean up teams.

I'm trying to represent the local kite club ,and it's not a good look when we get idiots out paddling round in the sewage ,not only is there a **** load of rubbish in the water ,it's all the nasties you can't see which is the problem,you guys wanna end up in hospital with tubes hanging out of you ,or sitting on the crapper for the next week go ahead ,just go somewhere else...

Those of you who don't know Brisbane /Moreton bay ,the beach at Brighton / Sandgate is directly down wind ( the last couple of weeks prevailing E - SE winds ) and about 6-8 NM of the mouth of the Brisbane River ,most of the crap you see floating down the river on the TV is ending up on he beaches of this side of the bay , each high tide brings another load of crap , Like I said if your that desperate go up the coast and hit the clean ocean ..

If you were actually worried about pollution & debris in the water you'd never kite at sandgate.

LOLS what has kitesurfing in a gentle 20 knots got to do with jumping off a bridge into a raging torrent? So i take it that kitesurfing in 40 knots is gonna land us in prison? haha cos thats what your hinting. This news article has got little resemblence to what us kiters were doin at Brighton. we didn't waste anyones time... no search and rescue, no danger to anyone else... just guys having fun... and before we kited we were clearing the beach of debree. those who call the cops on us should be charged with wasting police time... not us kiters

lols ppl don't like my comments on here... thumbs down from a pretty innocent comment. Anyway checked out Sandgate after getting screwed over yet again by vodafone OZ (can't get a simcard to work in these shores). Found a very light breeze despite windmeters reading at least 15 knots lols... 15 knots is usually ON for me... i have gear that has me powered in those winds.. my 11m waroo with Luke's Shinn boards does the trick. But what i saw at da beach was definately NOT 15 knots haha.

So i guess that for me to get the green light to go kiting i have to get the green arrows on here hehe...

all good cos 2morro i'm seshin it up at something that my homeland (NZ) so desperately needs... a CABLEPARK. Lake Papuke would be perfect haha... Panmure basin even better but tide issues there
