Hi guys and girls,

I've finally had some time to get some things done and have made the first of the marker bouys for the slalom racing. I'll have the other 4 finished by the end of next week.

I figure the best place to have the first race will be off Leighton Beach. It's wide and sandy and allows plenty of room to spread out and is centrally located between the North, the South and the River.

I was thinking the 9th of December would be ideal at around 2pm, and now need to call for registration of riders interested in the series or even individual races. Racing will be subject to good wind speed. The stronger the better

Next race will be in the river and will be a course race and a slalom to make things more interesting. Then next race to be at Pinnaroo Point. Additional events will be run if we get the interest.

If you are keen to give it a run, just register on this thread and send me an email to info@kiteboardingschool.com.au with your name and phone number.

I hope to get a bunch of keen speed freaks together and run a regular thing.

Good winds,

Hey Speedfreaks, [}:)]

Looks as though we should have around 7 or 8 starters for the first race meet. With 8 starters, I reckon it'll be fun to race three races and average the results. From these results we'll try and organise a handicap for the next race day so everyone will have a chance at winning on handicap and also improving their performance.

The races will be a water start and then upwind to get around the windward mark, and then downwind slalom race around the 4 remaining marks. This will allow 6 legs in the race in total with a beach finish. The upwind should sort out any starting line bias and alleviate any first mark congestion. Should make for exciting racing!

Race rules will be as per AYF, and will also take into account Kiteboarding Right of Way Rules.

If anyone else would like to enter, please let me know.

Good winds and see you next weekend. Pray for strong winds

Curse doonas and all the upwind they stand for . Youngy do you want to let me 'demo' a doona on Friday? If the wind's as borderline as it looks I'm going to be the first fatarse left at the line.

Hi Ian,

Yep, am working on getting it all finalized today, am a bit concerned with the synoptic siuation for Sunday though

We'll keep an eye on it and see what happens by tomorrow. May have to postpone til better weather forecast. Offshore wind is nasty, especially at Leighton as the wind comes through all those storage tanks upwind.

Here is an approximation of the course layout. Start will be between boat and a beach flag with no bias to first mark. Start line will be adequate in length to allow plenty of room. Upwind to first mark, then downwind through zig zag course to return back across finish line to beach.

Pray for the Sou' westers!

I will update on this thread on the morning of the race to determine wind conditions. If you have any queries, give me a call or reply to this thread.

Good winds,

I would suggest you move the start/finish line so that it is just south of the railway overpass. Say 50-100m, as it is currently smack bang in the middle of the dog beach which is typically the busiest part of the beach even when windy!

Hi Airhead,

Thanks for the input. We'll definately set the start finish to be the least intrusive of other beach users. The whole course is subject to modification to best suit conditions and environment on the day.

We are hoping to use as little beach as possible, thats why the start line will be out on the water.

Thanks again and wish us good wind,

Hello and thanks to everyone who has expressed interest in the first ever West Australian Slalom race series. It looks as though the gods may be in favour of our event and have provided us with a forecast fit for racing! The BOM has forecast Southerly winds of 20-30 knots in the afternoon which should see everyone nicely powered

We will abandon racing if the wind speed starts nudging 30 knots. Sign on and briefing will be on the beach at 2pm and racing will begin at 2.30pm. You are entering an "enter at own risk" fun event so please be prepared and manage your safety with forethought. We request you be a current member of WAKSA or AKSA and wear a PFD or impact vest, however, this decision is up to you.

We are running these events out of our own pockets and they are free to enter, however if you wish to see more of these events, we would gladly accept any donations to help in covering the costs of putting it all on.

This is a fun event, there is little to win apart from bragging rights so please do not put winning above safety. I am sure there will be some spirited competition amongst the speedy, so I urge you all to race as Gentlemen or ladies and be sporting.

Full racing rules will be given out tomorrow at the beach prior to the briefing.

Good winds and thanks again to everyone for their support, see you at the beach. If you wish to speak to me before the event, please call me on the number below.

Darren Marshall
Australian Kiteboarding School
0407 012 220

PS, If the forecast changes, I will notify competitors of any cancellation here on Seabreeze by 9am.
