why not tell the swimmers to swim betwen the flags !!!!!!!

how would you feel if the council put up two flags and said you can only kite between the flags ?? The patrolled area is for people who want babysitters while they swim, do we want this mentality imposed on us ?? If not then dont try to impose it on others!!

Actually,
This may end up being the future for wavekiting in the metro, (if you're very lucky).
> KITESURFING BEACH <
Two signs defining a stretch of beachbreak for a dedicated wavekiting beach......
Not unlike the dog beach model.
If there weren't dedicated dog beaches in the metro....
there would be NO dogs allowed on any beaches.
Do you get my point ?

There are already quasi dedicated kite beaches in the metro right now.
Woodmans Point is a quasi dedicated kite beach cause swimmers don't bother with the place.
And because Woodies has no real surf....surfers, swimmers, spongers, and bodysurfers aren't an issue.

It won't be easy to convince, claim and secure a stretch of beachbreak for kites only. But if you do succeed in scoring a patch, the crowds (of kiters) could be hellish.
lol.

Simple answer to that - a swimmer poses no threat to anyone else so why should they be moved along? The kites are the danger not the swimmer remember - look outside you own interests and try to see all the view points mate.

Obviously, if you a goofing around swimming in a spot with loads of kites in the air already, you are not the sharpest tool in the shed and a possible Darwin award candidate but why should SLS sluggos be asked to tell people where to swim? I imagine they'd have a fairly likely answer of go route ya boot mate.

It is up to us to attempt diplomacy and be prepared for at best a 50% strike rate.

The simple fact that keeps being ignored in this thread is that we are the most hazardous thing out there on the water. Not swimmers, not boogers, not poleys - US. No one else uses so much space or has the potential for so much damage (in a multiple of ways too - board, lines, kite)

Take responsibility and accept this and wear the fact that you might not always get to have a crack at your fav spot but having some level of choice where we go is better than none. Keep being selfish peanuts and we will be looking at widespread bans within a year or two I reckon.

The papers do distort the truth (never let fact get in the way of a good story) but the peception out there is that we are dangerous and selfish. Lets face it plenty of kiters are, so the peception is not far from the truth anyhoo. Ever noticed how many slagging and spitefull posts with kiters complaining about other kiters are on SB and other forums?

Wake up folks.

Spot on get funky.
Kiting amongst, or even near swimmers, is seriously risking an imposed system of allocated kitebeaches. (just look what has been done with dogs & jetskis)
This would be a totally unacceptable & disasterous outcome for kiting.
Say goodbye to your handy carparks and your summer downwinders etc etc.
I hate rules (with a passion) but it seems that without rules too many people cant, or wont, apply the basic rule of using common sense and courtesy.

It is kiters that will get kiting banned - NOT the complaints or the journos.

"wake up folks" is right.
'No Go Zones' are way better than allocated 'Go Zones'
And just doing the righty yourself is not going to work either.
We MUST begin enforcing sensible No Go Zones ourselves or we will get told where to go.
You have to stop the stupidity of others.

"Unfair" camera angle. Background looks a lot closer than reality.

Thanks.

why kite at scarborough swimming beach or Triggs swimming beach on a easter saturday ? - warm and a 18knot breeze and packed with swimmers, unless you want to take the risk of dropping the kite in the pack of swimmers. unfortunately a lot of kiters consider they wont drop their kite and are in complete control, yeah right, thats ok 99 times out of 100, until a dredging beach break hits them. fair enough doing a downwinder and staying out from the swimmers but to cut through a busy swimming beach to chase a couple of waist high wind waves is looking for trouble, eventually. there is plenty of beach south of scarborough and north of swanbourne (excluding swimming areas at city & floreat) where you can push the limits.

IMO the swimming beach (flagged) should be off limits to kiters, surfers, poleys and jetskis

Ahh **** it. Let it be banned from public beaches if it saves idiots hurting innocents.

There's no waves around perth, and melville is gusty and crap; if you wanna kite go to woodies. If you don't like flat water, go somewhere there's waves.

The problem is people doing down winders passing through all the flags along their way doing **** that I wouldn't even think about doing in the situation and I'm clearly the better kiter out of them and me on most occasions. [not floating my boat, pointing out that better skilled kiters wouldn't even do it] So they have no excuse, hopefully as it's the end of the season WAKSA can take the winter break to sort out something to stop this happening next season, other than that I'm looking forward to the real waves come winter. Maybe more than just me and kitecrazzzy will experience Dutchies going overhead this winter.

Perth doesnt even have decent kitable waves in summer except for brighton-trigg stretch...even then the amount of beach walkers makes this stretch of beach unacceptable to safely kite in(especially in the opinion of the general public).
3 years ago kiting on a strapless surfboard was only done by a handfull of riders, usually in winter and was done by experienced riders who were bored and knew how to kite.
Now people with no surfing background are doing downwinders from leighton to trigg, through swimmers, dogs, snorklers and beach walkers, Doing little snappy turns on knee high waves 5-20 meters from shore.
This year the kiting ban from Port beach to the walkway during summer was basically ignored, as were the bouys at Melville, as were WAKSA members only at dutchies(downwinders dont seem to count).
**** in your own nest at your own peril, blaming euros/tourists is a cop out.
Kiting WILL get banned in Perth at many beaches as the 1%ers will make councils regulate. Ive seen many simplistic answers but no practical ones.

Mabe kiting in 2020 will look something like this.: Pay for every session at a designated kite beach, pay for a parking spot (if theres one available)be in the eyesight of a designated kite-safety officer who can take your permit off you, especially if youre on P-Plates......Go there on a day when it's cranking to find the maximum number of riders is filled
