What is it with some kiters and touching hands? There's a guy at our local that wants to give high five's everytime he passes you. Just when you think you've made some distance from him, i turn around and there he is with his hands out for a high 5.

This is where i think aussie kids are leadig the charge, we know what style is and we push towards landing tricks with style instead of landing for the sake of being able to claim a trick (for the most part)

p.s. You can keep checkin the pkra/ kpwt for your daily style fix it's all there for you, dangles, kiteloops, seisures.... worlds best spinning to win with mad style.

my first ever post... i agree with you rowdy on pretty much all of your comments but i think this is a load of rubbish haha ozzys are not leading this, there in the exact same place as a lot of other countries.. there all stuck here so they dont know what anyone else is doing but there on the same page which is good saying that i havnt seen the east coast only wa.

there is a lot of gay stuff on the pkra, infact a lot more gay than stylish but there are also riders who are trying to push the sport in the right direction and the more and more that do that in competitions like the pkra will push the sport in the right direction, and get recognition for what a lot of people are trying to do, i think this will show more this year and events are one way that people can show what they can do. i think a lot of people would be surprised on how little you need to spin to win, look at alvaro... came 3rd last year without spinning

Sir Rowdy. it is fark1ng scary that you truly believe that you are part of some world leading style movement. The videos posted of your riding so far do absolutely nothing to validate your massive claims.

Even the dedicated video showing your best skills show you doing nothing at all of interest. you even manage to crash your kite after basic s-bends and raileys- almost missed thanks to quick editing.

You might be something flash at your local spot- but I reckon thats just a case of being a big fish in a small pond.


In WA i saw a few people with a style orientated mind but not as many as i thought, in fact alot less than East coast, funny seeing we have way less wind. Hopefully the core slider jam motivated a few people.

I (along with alot of other people I spoke to) were heavily dissapointed with the level of riding at the coreonline event. Considering you east coasters are apparently devoted to rails and kickers- you looked decidedly average at the event. What style? what progression?

No presses, grabbed passes, speed, power. most of your passes are done from toeside where half the rotation is already done and the pass is closer.

On my second day of hitting these obstacles I managed flat 3's off the kicker, so did most of the WA groms hitting the thing for the first time.

Here's a bit of shocking news for you- passing off a kicker is not that hard! some do it better or more stylish than others- but Fark! won't you give it a rest on the style wars? every second thread on this forum gets taken over by you whinging on about style.

About the only common thing that all the style claimers have apparantly is that they all wear boots!!

Is that the actual question of style here? Is style less about riding technique and more about listening to hip-hop and wearing baggy shirts and boots while you're riding? If so, then yes you are absolutely right- you east coast riders have way more style than all the rest of us, and you are definately leading the charge in stylish kiteboarding.

OK..... lol so first off you post a crap vid you made of ppl riding in an event (event riding isn't progressive), then you slam me about my riding in an event and footage of me taken over about a 15min period in which i wasn't really doing much freestyle... i didn't even have fins in or my own board.
Im sure if i had a camera crew following me around to the best spots in the world sitting there all day videoing i could land some boschmosis 2100s for you and in your eyes be the most styley cat on this planet...

Us eastcoasters were average??? you mean me and cam, there was only two of us. And what the hell do you expect?? this is kiteboarding, sorry if rails bore you go watch some more pkra vids and dont come to a rail event again.

DISCLAIMER: Thought I would put this at the start since reading comprehension doesn't seem to be a strong point. I do not claim to be a.) a good rider or b.) a stylish rider.

All I'm going to say is that on one side of the fence there is a lot of boot riders who think they are cool because they ride boots and there is a minority of riders that actually know what is up and can actually make this style worthy of the claims.

On the other side of the fence you got your strap riders who are technically obsessed and due to the nature of kiting often take the safe option out. These guys can *do* all the tricks in the loose form of the term however lack a bit of flair. Generally a lot more consistent but also ride a lot more conservatively. Watch these guys try and do it a different style and they break down and crash and burn all the time like the rest. Also they don't really understand the tricks, give them stupid names, would rather see a double pass than a single pass with a nice grab or just plain can't appreciate the difficulty of a really big grab. Then you got a minority of strap riders who can do legit wakestyle in straps and do know what is up.

So really you got a minority in both groups that know what is up, but you got your super kooky claimer boot riders and your super kooky foot hook riders who think that they are killing it because they can do air pass.

Then you got the people that don't like wakestyle, don't understand it or plain old just don't care.

P.S I don't think people can really appreciate the difference and subtleties in what I am talking about until they have been kiting for a while and have gone through the progression in their riding from learning a trick to getting it down to a sick as they can do it. Going for a trick at mach 10 with the kite low and going into it safe trying to land it are worlds apart feel and look wise.

Damn after all that I need some wacky backy.

p.p.s so a toeside backside 3 is easier because you start toeside??? and so is a toeside front 5???? how so???? funny i didn't see anyone else doing those tricks. must have been to easy for them..... I think you will find i also grabbed these tricks most of the time.
