there is a 16 year old girl sailing solo around the world

seriously ..... you guys are saying...... dont push the limits you might get hurt, bring the sport into disrepute etc...... what a load of garbage.
People who do extreeme things in extreeme sports use calculated risk and COMMON SENSE .... yes this might happen or that might happen .... the risk is where the buzz comes from and without people taking these risks sports and humans dont advance.

Think about the guys who started out kiting in the early days on two line kites what about the risks they took...risks that have benifitted us all...it was dangerous but the risk was calculated and THEY took the risk the result being massive changes in kite designs ........ someone has to be the guinea pig.

The point is ...you dont attempt something like that unless 1) you know how to handle a kite 2) you are aware of the dangers. 3) have the balls to actually make the attempt.

If they were stunt men and the shot was for a hollywood film and the pier was closed would you guys still be complaining ?

That was ****ing mental,[}:)]

I cant believe that there is so much bitching about this jump!

the guy is extremelly skilled and has done something that no one else has ever attempted. If it was all organised and no one was put at risk apart from himself then i cant see a problem.

This should be recognised as a STUNT not as kiteboarding in general.

STUNT men take extreme risks and push the limits thought posible, good on them its not for everyone. As long as the stunt is organised and no risk placed on others it can only be good for the sport.

Kite boarding looks to your average tv viewer like its quit boring thats why you wont see much of it on tv, some people that have never seen kiteboarding they will take notice of a stunt like this and may decide to become involved in the sport.

Keep up those big jumps guys looks sick

Just a quick reminder.......

stunt
1. A feat displaying unusual strength, skill, or daring.
2. Something done to attract attention or publicity.

The whole things about stunts are that they aren't as dangerous as they look. With a certain amount of skill lots of seemingly dangerous stunts can be performed with ease. Now if you can't recognize there is a large degree of luck in that stunt and think that the riders could control exactly their where they were going then your a little bit naive.

I have talked to numerous riders whom are equally as capable of doing the stunt and large majority of them think jumping such a large object is pretty stupid because not making it is a real possibility of not making it and there is just too much stuff you can't control.

Base jumping has constants, you pretty much know what's going to happen, basic physics. Nitro circus has constants, bike speed and ramps and the riders have trained in foam pits. In these stunts the prime reason for getting hurt is stuntman error.

Compare this to a stunt such as Russian roulette and sure you might not get shot and if you do it's not your skill error it's luck. Not saying these guys don't have skill or balls. But seriously if that had gone wrong he most likely would have died, and all that would have had to go wrong would be a slight lull in the wind or a rough take off from the chop.

Give an example of a stunt like this that involves a degree of luck.

If you took the danger out of every thing you did life would be pretty boring, HTFU

Good on them, now lets see some one jump the Narrows.

Only a euro would think that is awesome.
Only a euro would make some gay vid and in it claiming how sick it was.
Sweet, you can do a hooked in boost over something and bum check.
You wasted 3 years waiting to do a boost, if i waited 3 years to do that I would have probably just boosted into the structure and killed myself, save people the chore of having to exist on the same planet as me.

totally agree with monkey. if the stunt being pulled means that if you miss you end up wheelchair bound or worse then it begs the question why? Why cant the just jump beside it and still be filmed well above the roof? Old mate wouldnt be crying htfu when he's wheelchairbound and cant feel below his tits. Then everyone would be saying 'stupid wayneker' instead of 'sick'. The consequences of a fxck up are very real.
How often do you trip or walk into a door when you didn't mean to? been walking a long time but and totally proficient at it.

The danger of the trick is besides the point though, the fact that doing it relies on things out of your control is what gets me. If people could get consistent boosts on kites in that sort of wind I wouldn't have a problem with it. I know I can't and have yet to meet a rider nuking or not that every now and then pulls the trigger and a blank comes out...

Also the fact that you say it is sick means even if the guy died you still support it. You can't just say your behind something like that and then change your mind based on outcome.

P.S I highly doubt there was much planning done at all.. other than talk **** about it for 3 years then ring a mate up to video it so you can claim it.

Lets pretend that the pier is a 30ft high soft sand spit . Im pretty sure that everyone here would be applauding it ! The difference would be the consequences of hitting the pier compared to sand. These guys took a calculated risk and went for it ,good on them .The pier was deserted , except for the camera crew . I reckon it was awesome , so why dont you ( Bans Bans Bans ) kiters HTFU . THIS WILL NOT LEAD TO BANS

Bit weird, just reading all these post then saw the clip on channel 10.

My old spot, didn't know him well but Lewis is a top kiter. Also do you know how f'ing cold it is there!

As a previous poster said, I thought it was us poms who were the wingers. Imagine if they had big rideable surf there, be showing a few people over here up me thinks.

Awesome jumps, pushing the limit is part of human nature, there's enough people on this planet to lose a few here and there.

LOL,

It's funny that not so long ago Dimitri Mereminades jumped a house on stilts several times and it was all cool whilst he sailed over it.

Then the last time, he missed, smashed into the house roof and became a complete tool in most peoples view and he only injured himself and was not a public stunt.

Spacechimp's right, support shouldn't be based on outcome.

I just find it funny LOL

Wtf? Its a stunt, people, just chill.

When a rider goes out and does a backflip on a motorcross bike as a stunt, does that mean its not dangerous? How about people jumping over 2 busses? Here is a shock for you, most stunts generally have a risk of a personal ending wheelchair!

Why is it people can do stunts in every sport except kiteboarding? They're not asking people to go out and do it. They're not saying its safe. Its pretty clear to most people its a stunt, so wtf is the problem?

I wonder if they were leashed.

Yep, they were leashed. ^^^
I spotted a death-leash during the man-love bit on the vid.

Why do you call it a death leash? [}:)]

Hey - big jumps are fun but why does there always have to be an obstacle or death element involved?

Attention seeking showponies bore the living shee-ite outta me, but hey that's just me so if you get a chubby watching a couple of lads who don't get much action any other way, knock yourself out (literally no doubt).

Planning it for 3 yrs? Bah hah ha ha ha.. that is so funny. As someone else said "lets avaspliff n talk sh!t about it for 3 yrs"

Plan all you like, catch a rail on take off and the pier has a new human rainbow spread accross the side.

BORING.

EDIT:
BTW - 10 points to the lads for doing the righty and organising the closure of the pier and sanctioning of the jump. Disapointed they didn't have boardies over their wetties though.

I don't know if anyone on Seabreeze has noticed but large brains are usually matched by large gonads. Actually I doubt 50% of punters have noticed this.

Conversely small peckers and jatz crackers are usually matched by peanut sized brains. There is also a tendancy for these under-endowed kiters to want to big note themselves and use acronyms such as HTFU. These are the sort that are drawn to stoopid, dangerous, attention seeking stunts. There is often also a correlation to abusing anyone with a differing opinion.

Nothing required downstairs? Nothing to prove. Room for other opinions without abuse.
