Nice take off , shame about the landing.

If you where that experianced to jump it you should be experianced enough to land it.

Not bringing your kite foward as you jump is such a basic mistake, and to drop your kite in the drink afterwards ??

Oh well, most of the punters over there would not of noticed.

Yea, they didn't land it.

What a waste of time - blah blah how we jumped the pier, don't try this yourself.

Lewis is a bloody good kiter, he didn't win the British Nationals twice in a row for nothing. Here's the same jump from another angle, notice how he loops the kite on landing.
They wiped out purely from landing with so much speed.

Not so kooky as you might think ;)

Thats pretty sic, I have limited my jumps to just sand bars and such ha ha. Well more that i just can't jump that heigh ha ha.

The last guy landed it he just hit chop and went over. 40 MPH wind has some pretty big chop, i don't think you can say that it was not good because of the landing. The part where they jump over a huge pier is the important part.

Check these mega loops out...

Can't believe I'm the one saying this.

In sports like motox, snowboarding etc it is just basic physics that determine if you can make a jump. Too many variables in kiting IMO for stuff like this, sure its extreme but they could have easily died, then imagine what makes the news. No doubt they are experienced kiters and would have known the risks.

Could have easily boosted in a Lull and just smashed into the side at no fault other than mother natures.

Couldn't agree more, also if you stay in bed inside a plastic buble, you would be very safe

I thing they knew the risk and they had the coconuts to go for it

I respect that and in fact I am slightly jealous.

Now that breakwater wall at Hilary's boat harbor
Just kiding

yer i gve em props for that one... but like said above if mother nature decided to be an outright **** and give em a lul as they boosted, they wuda pasted themselves nicely along the pier and given our sport the worst possible publicity and make us look wreckless and we would get even more pressure from government n shiz.

that being said im sure for a stunt like that they would of went to their council etc n made sure it was cool n the council im sure would of understood the risks too

Here we go again.

Why is it the "good riders" doing stupid stuff is newsworthy? Don't come complaining WHEN bans kick in because of stuff like this (going wrong or otherwise).

And I cant believe Im hearing it
What is this ? a Space-aged monkey talking.
Just goes to show that wisdom starts weaving its magic on us all - eventually

And I totally agree - whats the point?
It goes well - nothing gained but another jump.
If it goes wrong the consequences could be horrendous.

I know :)

Just too many variables in kiting, in other sports extreme stunts you can train for and you can practice for but really in kiting there is a large degree of uncertainty in boosting and it is far from a precision activity.

It is almost like playing russian roulete, just a matter of time when theres that lul and you don't go quite high enough.

Cool jump.

Forget the lull-theory, Spacemonkey. ^^^
It's obvious that the kiters chose a nuke-wind day intentionally to do their stunt.
There are no lulls when it's blitzing, man.
Doing the same stunt on an 18 knot day (with a bigger kite of course) would have required more skill.
And I'm guessing the kiters would have played it 'safe' and rigged to be overdone rather than undercut.
Now,
if a string had snapped at an inopportune moment...
lol.

Personally I find boosting in stormy nukeing conditions far more variable than a constant 20 knot seabreeze.... Don't know about you slave. I wonder if they were leashed.

I spotted a death-leash during the man-love bit on the vid.

I don't understand the finer points of "freestyle kiteboarding" at the best of times, but to me as it has been said already this just looks like another boost, except this time it's a stupid one.
Anyone can be an idiot for a day.

Boosting Worthing Pier ain't exactly the same as boosting St Kilda Pier or the breakwater at Woodies - its huge! They spent a lot of time working out the jump and 3 years waiting and preparing - though their "preparations" could have involved smoking a spliff and saying "Dude I'd love to jump Worthing Pier."

This is the time of year when the winds rip across the South Coast, so I'd daresay they could trust the conditions.

Good on em I say - You have to have some people pushing the limits.

galah, i doubt we'll see bans from this even if something did go wrong. WA and galah need to get their hand out of their giny and appreciate something extreme in our sport. More death defying stunts I say!

I doubt motorbikes will be banned because of the Nitro Circus. Pull your head in galah. I'm sure you'll be the first pimping the new inflatable shorts and kiddy floats that might soon be heading our way HTFU!

it must have been a different vid I watched. The one I saw was jumping over a pier. There were no ramps, houses in suberbia from what i watched. You might be getting a different feed over in WA

The (closed) pier doesn't look like a suburban house to me either. There was no one at danger except for the riders I believe.

Good on 'em I say

It was an organised stunt over a closed pier with cameras everywhere to record the moment
The guys waited and planned for three years for conditions to be good enough to do it.

Yeah there was an element of danger, yeah someone could have died so what. They knew the risks.
Its called pushing it, just like the moto cross guys, like BASE jumpers etc etc

Next time they should maybe go out in sub 15kn with their fax, mobile, concrete, flares, life vest, helmet, death leash, retractable leash, hat, sunnies, etc and jump over a small floating rubber buoy.
Wouldn't be as speccy but it would be nice and safe.

no one said it wasnt risky or pushing limits. because it was it was a risky jump etc bla bla got kiting some publicity making it look core n dangerous bla bla. no one really cares.
Like said before if the kiter was to hit the pier or something and seriously injured or killed himself the media would of churned that up into some chronic headline just like that fkn idiot in america who decided to kiteloop into a building. even if the councils knew about it and it was all organized once something like that gets into the media kiting will once again be on the radar with councils and safety of other beach goers.

Sure the pier was closed, but this would give many kooks the idea to try jump something and to try it themselves.

The difference with this vs motoX is motoX stunts are ALWAYS pre planned and well trained for and motoX does not have many variable that can throw out a trick such as gusts and lulls etc AND motoX stunts are always done in safe controlled environments away from pedestrians and passer bys. kiting someone sees this n goes hell im gona go boost the local break water or something ****s up loops his kite into a family sitting on the beach or swimming near by. council hears this n boom ya spot gets fried.

Sick stunt none the less n it was a crazy idea cos that peir is farkn big but yer this had one of two outcomes : small amount of positive publicity, probably forgotten by general public that doesnt care for kiting in a day or so... or mad negative for everyone.

As has been said, motorcross everything is planned and done in a controlled environment, you can't even ride your dirtbike in the park down the road if you wanted to, it's illegal.

Jumping houses/ bridges/ rockwalls/ family's is a stupid idea if you want to keep access to spots and kiteboarding legal, if you can't recognise that there is something wrong with you.
